Royals Have Shown Interest In Alec Bohm, Taylor Ward

  1. Trading Singer for any of these names is an absolute negative move. I’d love to have any of them over in house options, but trading away Singer for them is an overpay.

I’ve stated numerous times the philosophy that 2023 was bad for singer due to him participating (but not pitching) in the WBC. Missing spring training can be very bad for a lot of guys. Look at Montgomery this year for example. I’ve been saying that since like June of that year, and that’d he’d bounce back in 24, and unsurprisingly, he did.

So wipe out his 2023 year. Forget it. Without he’s a 3.9 era, 3.8 FIP, 9 k/9 guy. That’s your four starters, with two years of control left. In the middle of his prime years, and not expensive.

Trading that for a bat who is maybe 10-15% above league average is ludicrous.

If the ask is Marsh, or Lynch, or Bubic and something else, that’s great. They are guys without a real spot, who hold value and can be used in this way to improve your team and be a win win deal for the others.

Make that something else a blocked Carter Jansen and go after a bigger name. Or make it a lotto ticket and it’s still fair for Ward, India or Bohm. But flipping Singer for league average is a disaster waiting to happen. All it takes is one hammy pull from Wacha, Ragans or Lugo and the rotation is shit for 6 weeks. Why subject yourself to that extremely likely scenario for a slightly above average bat?
