What the hell are we actually witnessing?

Wayne Gretzky set the NHL goal record at 894 and despite scoring just 5 in 24 games to start last season, Alex Ovechkin has been on an absolute tear to start this season as he chases down that 894 mark. Coming into last nights matchup of the Washington Capitals vs the Vegas Golden Knights, he continued his dominance with a hat trick to bring him to 13 goals in just 17 games. It is looking much more like WHEN will he break the record, not IF he breaks it as he is on pace to score over 60 goals this season. He is also currently tied for first in the NHL with 13 goals and he’s doing it all at the age of 39. What we are witnessing is a living NHL legend doing something truly remarkable. I cover it all and more in todays NHL hockey video!

  1. as a lifelong oilers fan who was in Northlands Coliseum that night Wayne won his first Stanley Cup i would love to see Ovie break the record. the man is a true beast and a legend in his own right

  2. Now imagine he has Jágr's longevity and can play competitive level NHL for at least 3 more seasons. Remember Jágr with Panthers – Huberdeau, Barkov Jágr? If he does even the 1000 might be possible

  3. This is NOT sour grapes by any stretch so don't go there. How many teams did Gretzky have in the league during his run?.. Gretzky did his record in how many games?.. K. So Ovy may have the goals but it's skewed heavy. ❤

  4. He has always been on steroids. This was reported when Bonds was caught up in the Balco scandal. Bettman made the story disappear. He is s nothing but another Russian cheat

  5. Ovie just got hurt in a knee-on-knee play with Jack McBain, which looks suspiciously like it was intentional. A down-the-lineup player clipping one of the greatest stars in the game – forcing him onto the disabled list week-to-week – we just can't have incidents like this happening as often as they do. They're not only dangerous to the player targeted, but risk their livelihood as well. Alex Ovechkin is built like a tank, but anyone can have their career ended by a knee injury. Worse yet, Ovechkin is involved in chasing one of the most-prestigious records in NHL history – the career goals mark held by Wayne Gretzky. It is just bad for he game for incidents like this to happen.

If McBain's hit is cleared by Player Safety as being accidental, OK – but if it isn't – he ought to be suspended until Ovie gets back on the ice. The game can't afford to allow headhunting of its finest players. And no dirty hit is as dirty as an intentional knee-on-knee hit. Get well soon, Alex!

  6. Alex Ovechkin has not yet broken Gretzky's career goals mark, but he already ought to be known as the best goal-scorer in NHL history. When he does break the record, that will merely confirm what his fans have been saying for years: That he is the very best of the best when it comes to scoring goals. Scoring is harder in today's game than ever before, yet the "Great Eight" keeps putting the puck into the net. Everyone knows where "Ovie's Office" is, and what he is going to do there – but none the less, it seems like no one can stop him for long. And the man knows a lot of other ways of scoring, too. Hat-tip to Dylan Strome – a former Blackhawk – and all of the guys assisting on Ovie's goals. He's got a new spark in his game, and you guys are part of the reason why.

If he can come back from injury quickly, and maintain his pace – he may very well break the record this season. I'd love to see Ovie net sixty goals this season, something no one his age has ever done. The man is simply a beast.
