How are we feeling about Josh Karty so far?
He's 16/30 on FGs which isn't bad.

Looking at it more is the fact that were all at important (some more than others but generally within 1 score) moments in the game. One of those would have been to take the lead against the Bears.

After 3 of those misses is the fact that the opponent has scored (2FG 1TD) which makes the situation worse.

I feel like his play is a fair reflection of the season so far. Barring a meltdown, I feel he deserves to finish the year.

  1. I didn’t really have an issue with him. Completely botching a chip shot in good weather blairwalshesque is concerning. But give him the season to right the ship, barring a meltdown like you said

  2. He’s also missed two extra points. He’s somewhere in the 25-30 range of kickers. He’s gotta be better. If our team was better it wouldn’t matter.

  3. I took it as didn’t “feel great” about him attempting a 52 yarder in that wind.

But TST is the Fox News of Rams reporting so… I’m not surprised by their take.

  4. I think his only genuinely bad game was against the Raiders. It sounds like the long snapper and/or holder had some issues against Chicago, but that’s only reflected in Karty’s stats, and the game against New England was so fucking windy that even the Pats avoided FG attempts if they could.

  5. DownTownRams Actually discussed this on their latest podcast. And he’s doing as-good or better-than most MVP Kickers in their rookie seasons. Also, it’s his rookie season and he’s pretty much our only kicker. He’s doing great.

He shanked the chip-shot this weekend versus NE, in NE while it was windy af. However all of our points against MIA were his field goals… I think he’s great and I have high hopes for his continued growth and success with the Rams. 🐏 🤘

  6. I think he’s a rookie dealing with his first year in the league. Give him time to have his growing pains now,

  7. Not sure what people are really displeased about. I think we’ve found our kicker for the future. Even the most seasoned vets have bad misses/games. He’s shown he has a big leg. He’s shown he can clutch up when it matters (Game winner against SF). I feel way more comfortable with him vs most of the other kickers we’ve had in the McVay era.

  8. I think rams punting in last game back to NE shows how much the coaches trust him … but he will only get better. Ethan Evans missing one game and week I’m sure messed with operations and prep. Little special teams stuff that doesn’t go noticed to most fans

  9. I’m not disappointed with him. He’s a rookie and he’s been reliable enough that we aren’t dreading kicking the ball so that’s good enough for now. He’s hit and missed some important field goals for us so far. But as long as he continues to develop and doesn’t drop off in any significant way I don’t see a reason to be too worried about him.

  10. Karty is good. He’s got a strong leg and he has made big kicks under pressure. Most of his misses came over a two week span IIRC. I think he can be a top 10 kicker.

  11. Honestly, as a rookie his numbers aren’t terrible. I think next season is the year we see what he is really capable of and if he is legit.

  12. Unless he tanks the rest of the season, I think he’s earned the right to start in 2025. He needs to get better at his kick placement, though. Very few of his makes have actually gone down the middle.

  13. I’m fine, we freak out about misses but realistically our issues on offense are not finishing enough drives.

  14. McVay was betting on the defense rather than betting on a 52-yarder that could put the Pats in good field position with a miss. Betting on his defense seems like a sound decision right now.

  15. What I noticed is that he misses every time a defender gets past the blockers. It’s like dude ends up flinching and fucking up because of that. But 16/20 is not bad.
