Do we need to extend him before the end of year?

  1. Does Bean do mid-season extensions very often?

Maybe not mid-season, but I’d argue he’s the a top 5 slot receiver in the league and needs to be locked up.

  2. He’s under contract until the end of the 2025 season. They’ll sign him to an extension at some point, but he’s here another year either way.

  3. He’s 2.5 years in to his 4 year rookie contract, and a rookie isn’t eligible for an extension until after year three.

Beane does love an early extension discount. I 100% think Beane wants to sign him longer term and will offer him something. If we don’t hear anything next offseason it’ll because Shakir wants more than the team can afford.

  4. He’s the best slot in the NFL, imo. Reminds me a lot of Edleman with New England. Should definitely do it at the end of the year, but his stock is only gonna rise.

  5. Drafted players aren’t eligible for extension until after 3 years are up. Beane will almost certainly offer him one this offseason, but his agent may recommend he waits in hopes his value increases (like Groot’s agent is likely doing).

  6. Need to lock up this dude for a few more years. Very effective weapon that Josh trusts enough to throw to in a pinch. Yards after catch stat is very impressive too.

  7. The biggest no brainer early extension ever. His value will only go up.

Pay him in the offseason and get him signed up for years.

Just because he didn’t go to an SEC school he doesn’t have a huge brand name. If he did he would be talked about as the best Slot receiver in the NFL.

  8. Can’t extend him until the off-season, but he’s definitely a priority.
Just a wild guess, but I think 15-17mil aav is probably what he’d get, though I’m sure there are some contract nerds out there that could correct me lol

  9. Nah, go the Jerruh route: wait till the last possible second to (over)pay him all while blathering on about being “all in.”

Ofc we need to extend/pay him as soon as possible, assuming his production continues this year. He’s such a thrill to watch and the longer we wait the more we’ll have to pay.

  10. I am impressed with him, but I’m not impressed with how we use him, nor am I impressed by the Bills screen plays. We seem to run 5 dud screen plays a game and like 2 or 3 successful ones. Ideally we would improve blocking on screens and also let Shakir run deeper routes. I think he’s a legit pass catching WR, if they’d use him a little less like a gadget guy I would love to extend him

  11. I think Beane will extend him as early as legally possible. Him and Coleman are our future at WR while Cooper will serve as an elite veteran presence in the short to medium term.
