Jaylen Brown with the clutch finish to put the Celtics up by 7 points

  1. Not his best game, but he is insanely valuable at the end of close games. Excellent 1-on-1 on both sides of the ball.

  2. If you’re gonna pick a time to start not turning the ball over this is definitely near the top of the list, excellent job pulling out of the nosedive in the clutch

  3. JB always has a moment in the game where he says

“Fuck this, I’m going to the basket.” And I love it

  4. You can think this is an incredibly difficult play and you would still be underestimating it. This is ELITE 1 on 1 play and then a finish that is literally world class to get over one of the best shot blockers in the league and control the bounce off the glass. Absolutely insane degree of difficulty all around

  5. Brown was a turnover machine but he made it up with those back to back clutch buckets down the stretch

  6. For years and years (since 2019-20 to be specific) the Celtics always ran the same play in crunch time: get a switch for Tatum, force feed him the ball at the left wing or top of the key. That’s it. I’m not here to comment on the effectiveness of that play, but that’s what they’ve always done.

Just to clarify I’m not talking about inbounds plays with like 0:10 on the clock, moreso the live-ball possessions with like a minute left and (usually) a narrow lead.

Anyway, giving Jaylen the ball in these moments is a very new thing. It didn’t happen in the past few years. It seems like Brad, Ime, and Joe never really trusted him to take care of the ball or make the right play, which was valid given his shaky handled and court vision. But a few times already this year, Jaylen was given the chance to iso in big possessions, and honestly it’s looked pretty good. He’s hit some nice shots, but even when he doesn’t make it, he still gets off a clean look that you can’t really complain about.

I like the change. We’ve approached crunch time the same way for so long, it’s nice to see Joe mix it up a little bit.

Tatum is the best player on the team. It’s not a debate, he’s the best player. But I think it’s clear that Jaylen is a more talented 1v1 scorer. He has the burst to get by people and he’s got way more tools in his bag to get off a clean shot. I wouldn’t be opposed if Tatum is the #1 option all game, but then we let JB try and close it out in the final minute or two. Shaq was the main guy but Kobe was the closer. LeBron was the main guy but Kyrie was the closer. Even now, Giannis is the main guy but Dame is the closer (but maybe that’s a bad example lol). Point is Jaylen’s a great iso scorer and I trust him to get a bucket in crucial moments down the stretch.

  7. So mad that Mitchell got fouled after this and acted like he was hurt, so TNT showed three replays of that basic foul and none of this play. This was an elite drive that looked so smooth. I wanted to see it in slow motion from all the angles!

  8. Don’t get me wrong, I love Brown but, there is 50 seconds on the clock and they have 5 points advantage. I really don’t know if that is “clutch” time.

  9. among the filthiest things I’ve ever seen in game the spin move into that finish was insane
