[Run It Back] “I ended up on the phone with a few guys from the 76ers. By all accounts, (Tyrese Maxey calling out Joel Embiid) was blown out of proportion. … They were sitting next to each other when we were on the phone, laughing and giggling.” – @TeamLou23

  1. Anyone who genuinely thought Tyrese yelled at Joel clearly doesn’t know anything about this team

  2. Doesn’t really matter now. Rich Paul and Shams already got the narrative formed. Hopefully it leads to winning

  3. That’s called holding your bro accountable. Nothing personal and all from a place of love. I hope this somehow spurs a change for the whole team and they get themselves into the play-in

  4. I’m sure he called him out, but I doubt that was the primary focus of the meeting. It was probably one of a dozen topics.

We only heard one little detail. If Joel is chilling with Maxey and joking around, then he took the criticism very well which is great news.

I’m more hype than ever for the game. Just win this one lol

  5. I don’t think anyone really thinks there was issues between Maxey and Embiid. The issue is that our best player hasn’t been playing well, is showing up to team events late consistently and seems not fully locked in. It just seems like no matter what happens with this team winning is never at the forefront. There’s always some other type of drama that distracts from just playing basketball

  6. Surely the order of the reports is wrong. Makes loads more sense Embiid says he’s not sure what they are trying run and the floor and Maxey then says his ‘you’re late or absent, be present and it gets better’ bit.

Normal conversation rather than ‘calling out’. Just the Maxey bit dropped first so it’s blown up

  7. I mean the original reporting was that Joel took the criticism well and that they are still boys. I think this aligns with what is said here. People acting like it was a complete fabrication are not living in reality.

  8. Weird…. I haven’t seen this posted on the other sub with 1000+ up votes and 100s of comments

  9. It’s so easy to dunk on us in /r/nba it’s hilarious how much we live in random franchises heads.

I saw comments in that thread making fun of “this sub” for saying that we were in a better position than the cavs LOL one homers copium take gets turned into our ENTIRE fanbases beliefs. I hate this front running shit, can’t wait for us to get back on track and annoy them when we win.

  10. I’m confused why anyone thought there was issues here. The reporting is that Embiid heard the criticism and said his piece about confused on the play calling, not that he pushed back against what Maxey said or that it was Maxey to say it. If that was the reporting, I could see why people would think there’s issues between the two of them.

But I think the main commentary isn’t about Maxey/Embiid made up beef, but the fact that Maxey had to say any of it in the first place.

  11. “Hey Jo – you need to show up to practice on time once in a while”. Ha ha giggle giggle.

    I would prefer yelling.

  12. Anyone who listened to Shams comments on McAfee’s show and has had a normal human interaction before knows this. I would have been confused about why people were making into such a huge ordeal, but a lot of people see the NBA as “Bravo TV for men” so here we are.

I run a business with some of my closest friends. We have conversations much more intense than this weekly. Jojo and Tyrese are coworkers, and friends.

  13. Even if this is true. Still not a great look.

Almost worse. Maxey said Embiid needs to take things more seriously and they burst out laughing and giggling. wow great

  14. Oh this makes more sense now. When I first saw this I thought oh makes sense. Telling your boy you need to lead by example, be a leader. Then I saw the fan base lose their minds and was so confused.

I now see some ppl thought this was them beefing 😭

  15. It sounds like Maxey was tired of playing losing ball and wanted Joel to be more serious after they went out and built a team around him. A good friend is going to call you out when you are acting out of line. Whether Joel criticized the play calling or not, that is also a fair point with the schemes NN has been coming up with this year.

We will see how the team responds tonight.

  16. I dunno, I think the bigger story is Embiid slacking on the team. I think most people agree that Maxey calling Embiid out wasn’t a big deal. The fact that a 30 year old Embiid, whose the face of this franchise is still coming in late and not leading by example, is concerning. Especially since every off season, we hear how Embiid is super serious this time around and will come back with a vengeance. It’s just not a good look.

  17. Great. Everyone can sing kumbaya. The bottom line is they’re still 2-11 and the star player is developing a reputation for not being a leader at best and lazy at worst.
