We also have a pretty mediocre collection of bigs to leave on an island. Are we gonna do the same and leave Porzingus alone against Mitchell 15x a game?
Interesting technique, but I’m a little skeptical. Hopefully it’s a stepping stone to a more complex scheme.
Bruh come on, did you watch last night? Its genuinely been years since ive seen someone targeted as hard as Queta was, and he got absolutely wrecked almost everytime. Its fine, hes still learning, its not like hes off the team or anything, but yesterday was bad. Some basic fundamental defensive manuvers he was unable or forgot to perform. Lets not sugarcoat just cause hes been kicking ass before this.
Nah, Queta looks bad on defensive because he is bad on defense.

I like having our bigs play in different areas of the court in the regular season, because we can win either way and there’s no time to get those reps in the playoffs. I wouldn’t be surprised if a team like the Cavs forced us out of that in a series, same as the Warriors ended up doing, but especially with KP I think we’ll have exceptional defensive versatility and I have faith in Mazzulla’s ability to make those calls.
If we need more help for people like Queta, we’ll have to rely on the sketchy defensive backcourt of *checks notes* Jrue Holiday, Jaylen Brown, and Derrick White. I suppose we’ll do alright.
Mazzulla’s trying to engineer a defense that neutralizes Mazzulla Ball. Wild!
I don’t think Queta is being bad by design. I think he just isn’t great against faster teams. I still think Queta is allright
No amount of practice will stop Queta from getting cooked by Donovan Mitchell 1 v 1.
“Looks bad by design”
Kornet doesn’t look bad in the scheme. That’s not a real excuse
Literally every center has a lot of responsibility on defense. It’s a defensive position!
My problem with Queta is that he’s out of position a lot more than he should be which leads to easy buckets or second chance rebounds. If he were a better shot blocker or had quicker hands, I could excuse the bad positioning more but he’s bad at those too.
Queta has one truly terrible game and you guys clown on him. Fucking Kornet has been ass outside of 2 games and its been crickets around here and Tillman was getting immediately played off the court to start the season.
There is a reason Joe is playing Queta and its not just because of his potential. Hes playing Queta because as of right now absolutely none of those 3 are very good. So, if theyre all equally mediocre, you take the guy with the most potential. Idc what Kornet has done in years past for us, hes been outright bad especially on defense. You guys wanted him to go up against Mitchell and Garland, then guess what? The exact same thing that happened last night happens to him instead. I wouldve liked to see a few Tillman minutes because he matches the quickness of the Cavs well but he doesnt match the size of Mobley and Allen. Queta is the in between where hes quicker than Kornet and bigger than Tillman.
I think neemias was just sort of getting targeted
– Opponents shot 35.2% on 36.7 3PA’s per game last year
– This year they shoot 34.6% on 35.1 3PA’s per game
It doesn’t seem like the difference is all that great when you consider:
– Opponents shot 64% on 24.1 FGA’s in the restricted area last year
– They are shooting 67.9% on 26.8 FGA’s in the restricted area this year
It seems we got worse at protecting the paint, without getting much better at defending the 3 point line. That said, I’d be curious as to what league trends look like. Our defensive rating relative to the rest of the league is definitely much worse compared to last year though. That sort of thing can change quickly though.
Thanks for posting bsky links legend!
I was tracking this during the playoffs, but the team with the higher three point percentage won roughly 75% of the games last year. It is kind of boiling down to a three point shooting competition
