Blue Jackets loan defensman David Jiricek & forward Mikael Pyyhtia to AHL’s Cleveland Monsters

  1. Development is not always linear and his has been botched a little so far but I think this could be a bit of reset to get his confidence and momentum back. Hopefully he welcome the opportunity and takes full advantage of it. I still believe there is a high level NHL player in there.

  2. Might be time to trade him if we can get a decent return. Wondering if this move hurts his trade value now?

  3. Playing 20 minutes a night on a top pairing is way better than 8 minutes every two weeks. I’m glad this happened.

    Edited for clunky wording

  4. I know that, logically, defensemen take more time to develop than other positions. Logically, Jiricek just needs more time to work out his flaws in the AHL. But he’s already proven himself to be a problematic prospect with his attitude and, in my opinion, entitlement.
Can’t help but wonder if Wadell has come in and has a certain “I didn’t create this problem, the last guy did” attitude. If Jiricek is going to continue to act the way he has before (which we don’t know if he will yet, wouldn’t be too surprising for a guy at that age to do some maturing), I think it’s probably just better to shop him around. Surely you can get a good haul for a recent top 5 pick.

  5. There’s no way Jiricek stays a jacket for much longer. Jackets really screwed the pooch here, but he’s not been doing himself any favors. I hope the tuna move means KJ plays tomorrow

  6. Jiricek needs AHL time because he is just not NHL ready at this time, hopefully he understands the development process and continues to work with the coaching staff and returns when he is ready. His ceiling is too high to be traded, I think he is only gone if he doesn’t want to follow the development process and becomes a primadonna. But with that attitude he won’t succeed in the NHL, doesn’t matter which team it is.

  7. Looking back at that draft, I’ll be honest, I was higher on Simon Nemec who got drafted by NJ. Guess, where he’s playing right now, the AHL.

I hope Jiricek takes this in stride as he’ll be a top pairing now with Denton more than likely. Which should be good for him

  8. Is there going to be a fallout from this? I thought Jiricek had previously been very difficult about a potential re-assignment to Cleveland.

  9. Jiricek with mateychuk willnbe killing it playing together. David needs time we all know that and he shows flashes here and there. Patience is key and i hope he understands it. Nemec is also playing in ahl in absolute dogshit team meanwhile jiricek has some serious talent around.

  10. Hope DJ learns to skate, and with speed. Playing some D without overthinking will do him a world of good.

  11. Jiricek is still only 20. I’m glad he’ll be playing games at least down there and is only up with the big club when he’s actually ready and not just to shut his agent up
