Bruins Fire Montgomery, Name Sacco as Interim Replacement

Well, this is a choice. I still don’t see this as a playoff team.

  1. It's called, the end of an era. It's rebuild time in Boston. Amazing that anyone would think a team can skip the rebuild phase. You lost some marquee players over the past few years in Boston, and others are in their twilight years.

If anything, they were overachieving last year. This year here, is the real Boston Bruins.

  2. Yup.This is pain. Give them a season or two and they'll be back. Gotta move on from Sweeney. We just lost a solid coach and it's Sweeny's fault

  3. Id love to see what Poitras looks like between Pasta and Zacha, I think he's going to mature into a Krejci like player. He's great with the puck and is a facilitator.

Throw Lindholm between Marshy and Johnson and let them find their games together.

Move Coyle back to the third line between Frederick and Geekie/Merk

Reassemble the 4th line from the start of the year and turn them loose.

  4. Don Sweeney didn't replace key pieces when he needed to and now Montgomery pays the price. There's no question that the real problem is the roster management. This surely has to be Sweeney's last chance.

  5. Rough offseason from Sweeney. But I can't blame everything on Sweeney. Monty seems incapable of adjusting his coaching to match his current team so it doesn't make sense to keep him. He even went on TV to say he had no answers which basically was admitting defeat. Sure, you could wait until next year to fire him. But at this point, fire him and then move towards selling if nothing changes.

  6. i work in tourism in boston, and it used to be that i never had to check the Bs schedule, i just would see when there were lots of people wearing bruins gear. either the bruins haven’t had a home game in at least two weeks, or nobody wants to go see our disappointing team

  7. He is a good coach, but as a Dallas Stars fan, I don’t feel badly for him. He let the Stars down badly by engaging in some personal misconduct that forced the team to force him out. We still don’t know what it was, to the Stars’ credit, but he let us down.

  8. I'm a longtime Bruins fan and am sorry to see Monty made the scapegoat for this train wreck. Paying Swagman all that money was a mistake. Thank you Hockey Guy for always bringing intelligent, thoughtful analysis of all things hockey.

  9. The front office didn't exactly supply good ingredients…For starters….they got next to nothing in return for a Vezina winning goalie. Didn't keep winners like Bertuzzi and Debrusk. And so on.

  10. Orrr sway takes way less money and the can sign these people they needed. Its really simple. The downfall of these diva goalies is so satisfying. Igor and swayman downfall begins boys.

  11. Its more than a lack of talent. I watched the entire 96-97 bruins season. I pushed through the pain while they finished dead last. That team was easier to watch than this team, because they tried. They were often outmatched and under talented but still put in far more effort than this team ever does.
