[Traina] Hubie Brown’s long illustrious career will come to an end some time this season, ESPN president Burke Magnus revealed. “We are going to give Hubie one last shot on a game. He deserves that.” Magnus didn’t reveal when, but a celebration for his final appearance behind a mic is in the works

  1. Hot take what Hubie has done with his longevity is more impressive than Bron/Steph/KD. He is NINETY years old. He was born before World War II and the FM radio. Absolute titan, legend of the game

  2. >Brown has not called a game this season due to a string of personal tragedies. Brown’s son, Brendan, who was an assistant coach with the Grizzlies and broadcaster for the Knicks, passed away two weeks ago, at 54. Brown also lost his wife, Clair, in June of this year.

Jeez, didn’t know his wife passed away too this year.

  3. Always appreciated Hubie. Dude is probably the oldest announcer out there but very rarely gets on his soap box about how things used to be. It’s admirable how he’s remained knowledgeable and appreciative of the modern game even though it must be quite different than the one he first fell in love with.

  4. Woah woah woah. Now look at this: now here’s a guy who has seen *a lot* of basketball. What a legend.

  5. Hubie has always been, and still is, a tremendous broadcaster.

If only we had a way to Altered Carbon him into Doris Burke’s body

  6. Now here’s a guy who deserves one more game. I mean here he is, 91 years old, his passion for the game never died. You gotta give him some credit, will ya? Legend

  7. >“I basically do two games a month, and it works out great,” Brown says. “**It keeps me alive**, vital, and on top of what’s going on and current. To me, the schedule is perfect. I can’t thank the people at ABC and ESPN enough for the fact that they continue to extend me year after year without my agent pestering them for an extension (laughs).”

ESPN is literally trying to kill this man.

  8. Hubie Brown is one of the few people that can truly make all time greatest player/team lists based solely on the eye test

  9. I wouldn’t want to make a man his age work on Christmas…. but if he WANTS to work on Christmas, he deserves nothing less than Christmas. The matchup of his choosing.

  10. My favorite part about Hubie is that he never ranted about the modern game or whatever, he just appreciates all of the eras and stars as they come and go.

As a young person, my favorite moment from him was honestly the game two of the Raptors-Cavs 2018 series that he did color on alongside Mark Jones. Both of them were working off one another really well.

  11. Favorite nba broadcaster ever. Can always tell he loved the game and explained what was going on in layman terms. No dumb catchphrases or trying to create drama.

  12. Now, the thing you like about Hubie is that even at his age he’s still clear of thought, and communicates very well

  13. Absolutely love Hubie. Hes still dynamite on the call. I’ve been listening to this dude my whole life, sad to see it come to an end. What a legend

  14. Hubie is a national treasure and a basketball lifer. I learned so much from him and Jack Ramsay calling games growing up. Congrats on an incredible career and can’t wait to tune in one last time. There ya go!

  15. One of the last remaining analysts to actually talk about the game in front of him and not use the broadcast as a podcast. One of the goats.

  16. Hubie is one of the best. I’ve been listening to him call games my whole life. I hope they really do right by him.

  17. Sharp man, knows how not to get in the way of the game, enjoyable listen.

    I will miss Hubie Brown.

  18. Man I love Hubie Brown. Absolute legend and a fantastic commentator. He genuinely loves the game and it shows.

  19. Damn man this blows. I know Hubie is extremely old now but he taught me so much about basketball over the years. It’s gonna be so sad when he’s no longer with us. As much as I hate the Celtics I really miss Tommy too. Clyde is getting up there in age too. All the goats that I grew up listening to are slowly fazing out of the game and it fucking sucks man.

  20. Love his commentary. Particularly when he sees players make bad plays, he’s not afraid to point it out, just like a disappointed grandpa. Truly someone who’s passionate about the game

  21. The man was so good. He would give such great and insightful analysis and not just play for a storyline

  22. This guy is an absolute marvel. Grew up playing before the NBA existed, coached Oscar Robertson, Kareem, Louie Dampier, Patrick Ewing, Pau Gasol and more. Still doing work in the broadcast booth
