‘Everybody should be nervous’: SF Giants broadcaster sounds the alarm about team’s future with KNBR

  1. Unfortunately, the market is pretty clear on this. Other than in a car, who owns an AM/FM radio? And even in more and more cars today, the “radio” has bluetooth connection and people just stream podcasts or Spotify from their smartphone.

Ask most young people what a AM radio is and you’ll get blank stares. They’ll wonder why radios even exist when the iPhone does everything they need already and on demand.

Remember in the 80s and 90s when we had “clock radios” so that every morning our alarm clock was the morning radio show. Today, people wake up to the iPhone alarm.

  2. I’m in Bakersfield and I only listen to games on the knbr app. If it goes away I’ll probably stop paying attention to baseball all together. I’ve already done that with football and basketball because of how hard it is for me to find the radio broadcast of games.

  3. I live for the radio during the season and use the app for every game. This would be. Massive disappointment

  4. I listen on the app and on the radio in my car a lot. This would be so frustrating and sad.

Edit: And on my Alexa device too.

  5. I would welcome the Giants moving away from KNBR, as that stations has been on a downward spiral for some time. Would be nice for Giants to come up with their own streaming platform, where they have podcast type shows centered around the Giants and broadcast the games. Not sure if MLB agreements allow for this, but would be better then completely eliminating radio broadcasts

  6. Baseball on AM just sounds… correct. Windows down on a warm summer night, the hum of static ever present in the background. On a clear night in the summer you can pick up KNBR 680 in Hawaii. I’ll be so sad if they do away with it for streaming. Not much left to remind us of simpler times gone by.

  7. If KNBR and the Giants can’t reach an agreement after 2025, then the Giants won’t be on radio? That would suck mightily. I don’t listen to KNBR as frequently compared to 10-15 years ago, but I find solace knowing it’s still there

  8. I’ve been a loyal KNBR listener for years. Watching this station get dismantled is breaking my heart. Seems like the only hope is to see a local ownership group acquire the station to keep it running. Murph, Paulie Mac, Gary Radnich, John Lund, Copes, Tolbert, etc, etc., all those guys provided background for me during so many highs and lows in my life.

  9. If this goes down wtf are we supposed to listen to the games on? Baseball is the best on the radio IMO.

  10. I have been listing since Sportsphone 68 with Ken Ditto, KNBR is a shadow of its former self.

I guess AM radio is dead.☠️

  11. As long as we have our guys calling the games, I don’t care too much about how it’s broadcasted. Sure I’ll miss KNBR, but I love Giants baseball and the guys that disseminate it for us, it doesn’t matter what medium it’s in.

  12. I seriously hope not but there are plenty of signs showing that this might be it (Cumulus moving them to Levi’s, Kruk and Kuip getting older and their dwindling availability)

  13. Central Valley native here, grew up listening to KNBR with my dad, he would be absolutely gutted.

  14. Sharks have an audio network and although I was first mad it wasn’t on the radio it’s more convenient now with an app.

  15. Nothing to do with the Giants but, Please lord and baby Jesus get rid of Greg Papa. Please and Thank you
