Gavin Sheets non-tendered by Sox

  1. Alright. Makes sense between Fletcher and Vargas (and Vaughn, if he stays) there was no obvious role for Sheets and he really hasn’t shown enough to keep him.

  2. RIP. Always wanted the Beast in the Sheets to take off and he never got a chance to play his natural position.

  3. Dang. It’s a little sad. Honestly.

Dude looks like he should hit about 40 homers a year, he just doesn’t have the contact ability.

  4. Been wondering when they would finally move on from him.

I like Gavin but the bat never got consistent enough unfortunately.

That homer he hit in game 4 of the ALDS against Houston was pretty cool, but outside of a few random home runs nothing big ever really happened with him.

Hope he finds his groove with another team

  5. Yeah he’s AAAA at best but who is the better hitter who’ll replace him? We don’t have to watch Eloy or Moncada get injured running to first anymore but who is going to drive in runs?

  6. Another added to the list of “really good when they’re hot but can never stay consistent”. I’m sure he’ll get a minor league contract somewhere

  7. Always liked Gavin. It’s unfortunate he never developed into his potential. I blame the organization for that. Hopefully he can figure it out somewhere else.

  8. I think we got more than we paid for with Sheets at the end of the day. He’ll probably be able to earn more money somewhere else. His power is good, and a lot of teams need that. And hell, maybe an organization that’s worth a damn will actually work with him to get his average up and not ask him to play every damn defensive position on the field.

  9. Should be good for an extra win per season if we can just find a replacement level player.

    IF we can find one.

  10. Even after everything, I feel bad for Sheets. He had promise but the development just never followed through. Better luck elsewhere, Gavin.

  11. Good thing we moved out top 1B prospect and made him play left field so this guy could get in the lineup.
