The Boston Bruins today annouced they have relieved Jim Montgomery of his duties as head coach of the Boston Bruins.
Joe Sacco will take over as interim head coach for now.

What do you think of the move? Will it change anything?
SWEENEY
Players issue, not coach, but this is the way they go. Management caved to fan pressure. I don't think Pasta will now start to back check and old guys will play younger. Needs to be a team change
The nhl has more child men than any sports League I’ve never watched. Can nhl players even spell integrity?
We know the Jacobs have a misguided blind faith in Sweeney and Neely but the glare of blame has to turn on those guys sooner or later, right? Sweeney still sits in the cat bird seat. He assembled the club, gave them to Montgomery expecting a contender. They played like a contender, all right but for a lottery pick. Sacco takes over for the duration which I don't see as an improvement. For Sacco, Kelly and Leach to work under Montgomery, they had to somehow share the same coaching philosophies. It might be more of the same but in a different register. At year's end, Sweeney & Neely will have another go at a new head coach for next season. Reprieve sustained again depending on team performance. He's been GM for what, a decade? To me his colossal swing and a miss of having THREE first round picks that in the proper hands and assessments, should've set the B's up for years of success. I'm not blaming Zboril or Senyshyn for having first round grades placed on them by Sweeney when they were not of that pedigree. The effects of that blown chance and the bartering of Round One draft picks in the interests of win now hasn't worked. All three are gone with two in Senyshyn and Zboril having no chance at being foundational B's. That reality alone should have had the Jacobs get on the blower to their administrative assistants with "Will you get Don and Cam in here, please?" Instead, these two will have another kick at the can of winning. I hate saying it but they won't as long as those two are still steering the Bruins.
Now the huge, slow, yet soft defense is going to start playing a fierce, Bruins brand of hockey. Or not.
Bring back Millbury! 😆
the bruins may have an almost 500 record and they may be close to a playoff berth, but they played UGG — ly hockey even when they managed to beat a team worse than them. they got blown out by the good teams and spanked by the bottom feeders. fans deserve refunds. firing a coach that admits he has no answers is a first step. this is a team that has had holes for years, but they were able to cover them by great leadership and some career years. not this year. every inadequacy is being exposed and burned. the pink slip could have gone to donnie or cam, but they are next if the players continue to play like hackers. personally, i don't expect this to do too much because sacco was from monty's staff. i doubt there is a lot of difference in their outlook or philosophy. how much is really going to change for the players ? anybody seen monty ? i don't understand these players. why play at all if you are not all in every shift ? if you can add ten goals to your normal ten goals and increase your salary by 1 M, why wouldn't you break your ass every shift and every practice to improve ? there is some sort of contagious mental virus infecting this team and only some strong leadership which DEMANDS accountability has a chance to cure them. bad choices on the ice and poor effort don't just happen spontaneously. they are decisions made by players from second to second. they choose to play the guy soft or they choose to hit him. they choose to hustle back and cover a guy, even if it is not needed, because you never know what might happen. this leadership must be willing to call out players for bad effort. i think it must come from the players themselves, and not necessarily the coaches, because these guys are out to lunch.
Good recap again, thanks! I agree with what you said about Sacco: how is that different? They couldn't do it in season but all the assistants needed to go too. PK and PP show that. Monty ultimately takes the blame but man o man this whole thing is dysfunctional. Add to the move today, this roster is flawed. WC team at best. The only thing I can see is maybe Don and Neely have someone in mind and that guy isn't available. Not that I know who that is. Or do they go with Sacco all year then give it to Jay Leach. Funny………..they won a Cup with Chiarelli and Julien at the helm. Two outsiders. But they refuse to go back to that. That's where Neely has to be on the hotseat at some point. Sooner than later
When the team can't win, you fire the coach, that's the way it is. Their most glaring weakness is they don't have any players who can score goals. It doesn't matter how well the team is coached or how well they play defense, if you can't score, you can't win. Simple as that. Pastrnak is the only legitimate scorer, if he is defended fiercely, they have no one who can pick up the slack, no one!
I'd like to see Gerard Gallant as head coach. Otherwise, if they keep Sacco, it'd be nice to see if Bergeron would want Sacco's old job.
Monty = SCAPEGOAT
Neely Sweeney = real problem
Can someone explain me one thing, please? If the special teams stats are so bad right now why is Montgomery the only one to be fired? I thought that the special teams fall under the assisstant coaching and so far Sako is only being promoted? Either I'm missing something or something's not right here.
Heard an interesting fact early today…..Sweeney (and Neely, by proxy) have now fired 3 Jack Adams award winners (Julien, Cassidy, Monty). Not sure how many GMs can say they've done that, and for those that can, whether they are still in the same job.
I don't think the move will change much, if anything. Saco is already part of the coaching staff that can't seem to right the ship. Don Sweeney, helped create this mess and he is allowed to stay, really?
It’s deeper than Monty Sweeney dropped the ball talent wise he let go good locker room players and kept young inexperienced players he let the wrong goalie that you had under contract go and brought in veterans free agents that are just not that good. Sweeney should be the next to go.
I think what started the downward slide in moral was when Monty got physical with Marchy.
This season was too much for Monty
This solves nothing.
While watching the Bruins last game it all seemed to be in slow motion, the just missed passes, the not quite enough stretch for the puck, the just missed check into the boards, for some reason the 1919 Chicago team popped into my mind ! Which Bruin is edgeless, or shoeless !
it probably will not change anything. The players brought in by Sweeney suck. Hopefully the new coach at seasons end will be chosen by a new GM
Joe sacco head coach ?
About time, now it’s Sweeney's time
