🇯🇵 Orix’s first-round draft pick, Yusuke Mugiya, had to transfer schools after being abused by a senior in high school. He transferred to a local high school and, with the support of those around him, went on to college and was selected as the first pick in the draft.

  1. I imagine Japanese bullying is like they told him his spin rate was 96% percentile or something

  2. Bullying is sadly very common in Japanese baseball and can get pretty brutal. Cases of seniors physically beating freshmen players, throwing baseballs at them while they’re in the shower, hitting them with bats, overt abuse that no one stops because the coaches do it too

I think it’s most similar to high school football in the South where it feels like some kid dies or gets beaten to the point of brain damage every year. It’s a very sad and disappointing aspect of playing that doesn’t need to exist. I certainly wouldn’t blame anyone for moving schools if they’re at one of the bad ones
