Really our payroll situation doesn’t look bad at all. Hicks and DJ will be coming off the books in the next 1-2 years and Stanton will be making less too.
Aaron Hicks is a free agent. We need an outfielder and we are already paying him anyway. /s
The biggest thing for me I don’t see being talked about in a potential Soto deal is opt outs. What year will he want one? I guarantee he’ll want one and I would guess it would be after Year 3 or 4. That’ll be the very end of the Judge/Cole/Stanton window and if I’m Soto, a great time to reasses where the Yanks are at then and whether I want to stay or look for a better situation. He clearly doesn’t mind going from team to team and I highly doubt he’s going to tie himself long term to any organization without an opt out and a chance for even higher score of a contract when he’s still relatively young and most likely producing at a great rate.
Yankees need to let
Wells / Trevino catch. Cheap money
Cabrera / Berdi / peraza platoon at 1st and 3rd cheap money
Jazz at 2nd. Cheap money
Volpe at SS. Cheap money
Dominquez in LF. Cheap money
Judge in CF
Soto in RF
Stanton DH
Grisolm 4th OF
SP cole. CLO Tanner Scott SP Burnes. Set up Weaver SP Rodon. Carlos Estevez SP Gil. SP Schmidt
You can just go to fangraphs and it lays it out much better than it does here.
Why do we have a “payroll situation?” We are the god damn yankees.
