Jim Montgomery signs a five year deal as Blues Head Coach.

  1. I hope I’m wrong, but the odds Monty makes it 5 years is very very slim. There’s currently only 4 coaches in the league who have been with their team for 5+ years (Tampa, Pitt, Colorado, Carolina). But this gives Jim the security he’ll at least get paid for 5 years.

I hope Jim does last, cus this would give us a stable known coach who will take us into the windows where we *should* be competitive again.

I always saw Bannister as a bandaid. He was what was available. We reached out to Monty in the offseason, but he wanted to stay in Boston, which I respect.

Reckless optimism!! All I want is a coach who is gonna hold players accountable.

  2. Yeah, the lifecycle of an NHL coach is ridiculously volatile. But, at least he can begin a steady implementation of his proven systems with not huge expectations for this team lacking in depth. Very happy with the move and impressed with Blues’ ownership and front office to pull this off.

  3. I think he will make it the 5 years, hopefully longer! His ties to the org and the CitStillman and Doug are deep

  4. No coach is safe. Monty is an example. The “What have you done for me lately” is always there. 5 years I’m a little shocked tho. Not many coaches last that long. Curious what Brind’Amour got. He I think just signed an extension!
