  1. It’s a long season, so things can change (especially with the trade deadline), but the Rangers have all the makings of an ‘out in the 1st Rd’ squad.

Either they need a new look squad come playoff time, or Zibanejad needs to wake up, and the defense needs a different strategy other than ‘let Shesterkin fix it’.

  2. these are the types of stats that always concern me every season. yea they have a decent record but when all the teams that they lose to are playoff teams I get worried. for years rangers have issues finishing in must win or statement games but mostly win games theyre “supposed to win”. This is why season after season people label the rangers as “frauds” or a “mirage”. The shitty teams make the rangers look absolutely dialed in but then when they play a real team everything just seems to fall apart.

  3. Zibanejad should just retire and go be a DJ in Sweden.

Trouba should also retire since his wife’s career is way more important to him than his hockey career and he now hates the Rangers but refuses to move.

Lindgren should retire since he’s basically killing himself every day

  4. I mean what’s the point of playing then right? This team is a whole big nothing. Especially 93. And at the end of the day, you’ll cry with nobody around in your empty arms.

Actually will be happy if this team loses now than wins. Simple as that and it will be 93’s fault.

  5. Crazy that their nonchecking team of finesse forwards are so easy to beat. Say goodbye to Shesterkin, he wants no part of being shelled over and over. He’s gonna be a beast on a good physical team.

  6. This team isn’t built to win the cup. It’s not ground breaking news, it’s been the norm the last few years.

  7. But I was told by this sub that our record means I was absurd to worry about our chances?

This team can of course play better than we have, but a lot of people need to start playing a lot better.

  8. We played a bunch of easy teams early on and dominated them. The guys got lazy and thought all games would be that easy. Their compete level has not matched any of their opponents, and they have been getting rocked early in games because they aren’t coming prepared. Hopefully these past few games are the wake up call they desperately need.

I’m not dooming though. We’ve seen essentially this team play excellent hockey, win a Presidents Trophy, and make it to the ECF only to lose to the SC champs. Even with the current shitty play they are still a clear playoff team, and it’s a long way to go until April.

  9. One of Vally’s stats last night in the postgame hit me pretty hard.

He brought up where the past Stanley Cup winners ranked in ‘defending off the rush’:

    Florida was 4th.
    Vegas was 4th.
    Colorado was 2nd.
    Tampa was 4th.
    St. Louis was 5th.

Rangers, in the past 3 seasons, have gone from 15th, to 22nd, to 28th, and to this season – 29th.

Unless this team has some major changes in their defensive systems and/ or personnel, I don’t think there’s any way that they keep up with the contenders.

  10. So far, they look overmatched against good competition. Slow, often hemmed in, few offensive zone entries, and mostly on their heels watching the goalie do handstands.

Worse, Laviolette doesn’t seem to be able to adjust—or even get this team to respond—after a series of decisive losses. That’s a concern.

Their overall record isn’t bad, but it doesn’t tell the story.

If things don’t improve I’d expect a major shakeup, whether it’s a blockbuster involving Key, or prospects, or whatever.

The problem is most of the guys we’d want to move have NMC’s, so it’s harder to light a fire. That’s on Gorton and Drury.

  11. It’s not just our defensemen, it’s team defense. I don’t know what has gotten into their heads, but our forwards just refuse to help out. They are completely missing that 5 man mentality to recovering pucks, supporting the d zone, back checking, etc.

  12. I don’t think this team is going to look the same when playoff time comes I won’t be surprise if 8 and 55 are gone and maybe even 20 though that would be the long shot

  13. By gdafo(goal differential adjusted for opponent) we were great 2 weeks ago, elite, best defense in the league.

Now we are just “kinda good”. Teams like nj carolina winnipeg Minnesota etc have left us in the dust.

  14. Move Chytil to 1C, Give Zibanejad and Kreider third line minutes, Trade Lindgren and get a defenseman with positive puck moving metrics, Give Kakko and Cuylle top 6 minutes. Get Laf on PP1, Once you get a puck moving defenseman give Trouba 6th Defenseman minutes

    Bread, Chytil, Laf

    Cuylle, Trochek, Kakko

    Kreider, DJ Ibiza, Smith

    Edstrom, Carrick, Vesey, Brodz

    Miller, Fox

    Schneider, Jones

    Puck Moving D, Trouba

    Mancini

  15. We need a good two-way physical center who plays responsibly. There’s a reason Cuylle has been one of our best players. The Panthers only beat us because they were more physical and aggressive, that’s what we need. Have one forward in deep pressuring the puck, one in the middle of the zone, and have one protecting the blue line with both defenders back at center on the forecheck. Get rid of Lindgren, put Laf on FWD1 with Panarin and Trocheck.
