So I always wondered why some players wear them when 99.9% of the time they get annoyed with them while they play.

I do, however, love the ones that some pitchers wear. Like Craig Kimbrel and Patrick Corbin. I also really like former pitcher Roy Oswalt’s too.

Just always wondered why they wear them and if anyone else has favorites like I do.

  1. Some wear their wedding ring around their neck since they can’t wear them on the field. Some wear a cross or something else religious. And some are Jazz Chisholm.

  2. Because baseball players are pro athletes, and pro athletes, on the average, aren’t very bright, and are highly superstitious.

Source: I’ve trained pro athletes for almost two decades, from a wide variety of sports, both amateur and professional.

  3. The amount of jewelry some of these guys wear is astounding. I’m reminded or Cespedes’ diamond necklace that broke sliding into second base scattering diamonds everywhere.

  4. I always wonder about the guys that have big gold necklaces on. Would that extra pound of weight make a difference in being safe or out on a steal attempt…or catching or missing a flyball?
Sure, the light ones are inconsequential…but some of those guys are hauling around a pretty good chunk of metal.

  5. If I’m making $250k per year, I would wear gold necklace too. I’m too poor to even look at plastic necklaces. lol

  6. I dressed up as [Uncle Larry](https://www.neonrocketship.com/2020/07/the-legend-of-uncle-larry.html?m=1) to one of my slowpitch softball games, complete with a 24″ steel chain. I tried playing in it. I took it off after one inning. It was so heavy and bothersome. It kept flying up in my face while moving and weighing me down. I don’t know how the MLB players can play in necklaces. I gained a new appreciation and respect for them after this experience.

  7. I love me a big-ass chain on a baseball player. Extra points if it’s just swinging in the wind as they haul ass around base.

  8. My wife enjoys baseball a lot. She will even watch a game by herself sometimes. Not often, but sometimes.

She primarily enjoys the game for its aesthetics, and not for the stats and strategy, etc.

And from an aesthetics standpoint, nothing, and I mean *nothing*, bothers her more than necklaces in the MLB. It’s often a whole running commentary on who has the dumbest necklace, and who is the biggest dirtbag because of the necklace they have on.

I couldn’t possibly care less, myself.

  9. I’ve just never understood how they can run with a bunch of chains and medallions flopping around.

  10. Dave Parker would wear a Star of David pendant on his necklace. When asked why he would wear one even though he wasn’t Jewish, Parker responded, “Because I’m David, and I’m a star.”

  11. Aha y’all remember phiton? I swear 90% of baseball players wore them. I always thought they looked cool, but I’m lame af.

  12. I’m partial to Siri’s pink beaded necklace.

Necklaces make sense to me for baseball players. It’s a sport where there are enough breaks in the action to adjust if needed. Dangly earrings on the other hand baffle me. I was scared too much by a chilhood coach telling me I was gonna rip my ears off lol

  13. >99.9% of the time they get annoyed

Do you have any experience or expertise to defend this claim?

We wear them for al kinds of reasons, sentimental, superstition, remembrance. Why would it annoy?
