8. The fact the team has no timeline for his injury is worse. Guess they didn’t want to say that because god forbid they lose any ticket sales from fans fed up of the same thing year in and year out. Also yes, the video of him being overweight does matter when he ended up getting injured like 5 games into the season. Not hard to put two and two together.

20. Here are 3 reasons Zion may have fired his contract agency, and 1 surprising reason that could be advantageous to the Pelicans in the long run.

    1. He is upset that they didn’t get him to the Knicks. This one is unlikely. Zion would have to be completely delusional to blame his agency for this. He would have to downplay his own injury history, his weight issues, and the fact that they got him a max contract.

    2. He knows the Knicks no longer want him, but he still wants to go to a big city like LA. This one is more likely than 1, but still very unlikely. If this was the case he would hire a new agency like Clutch, or another agency connected to one of the big cities.

    3. His contract can be extended next season and CAA has told him they no longer believe they can get him max money. This one is the most likely. In this scenario he would shop around for an agency and sign with the agency who could convince him they could get the most.

    4. (Surprise reason) He is upset that CAA convinced him to sign a contract with the weight clause in it. This one is possible. The Pelicans can play hardball with him now. Say Zion doesn’t get his act together this season, and fails to live up to his promises again. The Pelicans could either release him at anytime or trade him to a team that will and he will lose the entire value of the remaining contract. If it comes down to the last year of his contract the Pelicans can essentially force him to sign another reasonable extension on the threat of releasing him prior for failing to hold up his end of the deal. Essentially forcing him to show the organization the same loyalty they showed him when they gave him the contract.
