Virginia keeps its drive alive on 4th and 10 as Muskett hits Suderian Harrison on the right sideline for 11 yards, continuing Harrison’s strong night. But Muskett throws an interception on the next play, overthrowing Harrison and getting picked by Mansoor Delane.

Virginia appeared to have Bhayshul Tuten wrapped up a couple yards shy of the first down for what would have been a crucial stop, but Kam Robinson is unable to finish the tackle and Tuten escapes and makes a house call, running 58 yards for a touchdown. Game over.

Virginia goes three-and-out, as Harrison drops a pass on the sidelines, Muskett runs for a short gain, and then Muskett’s third down deep ball is once again too long for Trell Harris. UVA takes a delay of game on its punt, but Daniel Sparks makes up for it with a 59-yard punt to flip the field.

Virginia comes up with its first sack of the game, as Mike Diatta and a host of other UVA defenders get Pop Watson to the ground. The Cavaliers are able to get off the field, forcing a Virginia Tech punt. UVA gets the ball back down 13 points with a little less than 10 minutes to go.

Muskett continues to use his legs effectively, running for eight yards to start the drive. He completes a 19-yard strike to Kam Courtney out near midfield. Muskett runs again for 11 yards and then finds Suderian Harrison on the left boundary for 18 yards and another first down on the final play of the third quarter. Muskett moves the chains with his legs on 3rd and 2 and then rushes for a five-yard touchdown two plays later to cap an 11-play, 75-yard touchdown drive. UVA’s two-point conversion fails, so the score remains 30-17.

Virginia Tech drives the ball the length of the field in the blink of an eye as Watson hits Ali Jennings for 11 yards and then again for 40 yards before finding Ayden Greene for 15 more down inside the UVA red zone. The Cavalier defense holds, though, as Kempton Shine makes a great play to break up what looked like a touchdown reception for Stephen Gosnell. Instead, the Hokies settle for a 28-yard chip shot by John Love to make it 30-11.

Muskett finds Malachi Fields over the middle of the field for 16 yards into Virginia Tech territory. UVA catches a lucky break as Muskett is hit as he throws and fumbles the ball, but somehow the Cavaliers are able to recover the fumble and Virginia Tech is assessed an unsportsmanlike penalty on top of it. Muskett finishes the drive with his legs, running around the left side for 15 yards down to the Virginia Tech 2-yard line and then punching it in on the next play. Virginia goes for two and converts as Muskett hits Tyler Neville for the two-point conversion to make it a two-possession game.

Virginia Tech scores with ease after the turnover on downs. Watson completes a 14-yard pass to Lane, Bhayshul Tuten runs for 12 yards into the red zone, Lane gets the ball on a reverse and picks up 14 yards, and then Watson runs it in untouched on a QB keeper for a five-yard touchdown. Hokies lead by 24 points.

Virginia manages to pick up one first down on its initial drive of the second half, but the Cavaliers then turn the ball over on downs as Chris Tyree is stopped for no gain on a run up the middle on 4th and 1. Virginia Tech will have advantageous field position and a chance to extend its lead.

Watson finds Ayden Greene for 11 yards, but is tackled in bounds. The clock might have run out on the half, but UVA’s Billy Koudelka is whistled for an illegal hands to the face penalty. That moves the ball to the UVA 17-yard line and, more importantly, stops the clock and allows the Hokies to bring on John Love to kick through a 31-yard field goal. Virginia Tech leads Virginia 20-3 at the half.

On third down, Tony Muskett attempts a deep ball and Dakota Twitty draws a pass interference. On the next play, Muskett overthrows Suderian Harrison and has his pass intercepted by Jaylen Jones. Malachi Fields chases Jones down and strips the ball, but the fumble rolls out of bounds. Virginia Tech takes over at the UVA 46-yard line after the Muskett interception.

Pop Watson takes a hit and delivers a perfect deep ball to Jaylin Lane, who makes the catch in stride and runs untouched all the way to the end zone for a 66-yard touchdown. Just like that, the Hokies take a 14-point lead.

Virginia converts its longest offensive play of the game as Tony Muskett gets outside the pocket and finds Suderian Harrison down the right sideline for a 24-yard pickup. Muskett just barely overthrows Tyler Neville on a pass down the seam that might have scored a touchdown. Virginia Tech holds after that and UVA is forced to settle for a field goal. Will Bettridge comes on and converts the 37-yard field goal to get the Cavaliers on the board.

Virginia’s defense has settled in, forcing another three-and-out. Corey Thomas Jr. made a nice tackle during that series and Anthony Britton made the crucial stop on third down, forcing a second-straight three-and-out. UVA’s offense gets the ball near midfield after the punt.

Virginia picks up one first down on a nice third down run by Noah Vaughn, but the drive stalls after that as Tony Muskett underthrows Trell Harris on another deep ball. UVA will punt for the third time.

Pop Watson had Stephen Gosnell open on a deep ball, but overthrew him. Virginia’s defense forces its first punt of the game, forcing the Hokies to go three-and-out.

On the first play of the second quarter, Muskett throws to Noah Vaughn in the flat and he runs for the first down on 3rd and long. Muskett tries to hand the ball off and miscommunicates with his running back, but he’s able to make something out of nothing, rushing for another first down. The Cavaliers find themselves in another third and long situation and Muskett tries a deep ball for Trell Harris, but the pass is well-covered and broken up by Mansoor Delane. UVA picks up a couple of first downs but ultimately punts again.

Virginia Tech advances the ball into UVA territory, but the Cavaliers are able to make a stand after a holding penalty gets the Hokies behind the chains. John Love comes on and knocks his 44-yard field goal attempt through the uprights. Virginia Tech leads 10-0.

Virginia tries a flea flicker on its first offensive play of the game, but Tony Muskett is sacked right away. Trell Harris, who makes his return after missing the last eight games with an injury, drops the ball on his first target, and then Muskett can’t find Suderian Harrison down the field on 3rd and long. UVA goes three-and-out.

Virginia Tech has poor field position to start the drive thanks to a great tackle from Ethan Davies on the opening kickoff, but it doesn’t matter as the Hokies drive 90 yards in 11 plays to score on their first possession of the game. Pop Watson found Da’Quan Felton wide open in the middle of the field for 42 yards and then Bhayshul Tuten found the end zone untouched on a six-yard touchdown run.

UVA’s captains for tonight’s game are Tony Muskett, Suderian Harrison, Chico Bennett Jr., and Will Bettridge. Virginia has won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. Virginia Tech will receive the ball to start the game.
