I noticed a lot of top notch saves and a lot of fluke goals at the same time.
It’s been bad.
We’re currently 6th in the NHL in goals allowed per game even with the 6 in last night vs Washington…….we’re doing fine
It hasn’t been good enough.
Streaky. When they’re on they’re unstoppable. When they’re having rough nights they’ll make a lot of good saves but can’t be relied on to not let in some weak ones.
They’ve stabilized the position and will allow us to determine what we need to do long term. We knew that Marky wasn’t going to be a long term solution, but he’ll give us good enough goaltending until we find a more long term goalie.
I mean we’re 16-9-2. It can absolutely be better, but it’s by far the best goaltending we’ve had in nearly a decade.
Not great bob
honestly think markstrom came in grossly overrated and wish we still had that first round pick. he makes a lot of hard saves but gives up a lot of softies because of mental lapses/bad puck tracking/no rebound control. reminds me of a better version of blackwood in that regard
Goaltending is fine. Allen has been playing way above his expectations. Markstrom has been good as well. The team has had some bad games this year but its new goaltenders, a new coach, new defense, new systems. There’s going to be some growing pains. Goals saved above expected is also a VERY misleading “advanced stat”
I’d like less soft goals but who wouldn’t?
Could be better but it’s light years ahead of the shit we’ve been watching the past several seasons.
I mean can’t we just be satisfied with the record we have so far? Marky/Allen have been fine…im sure they will tell you they can always be better but look at past posts by people who speak about our goaltending:
Akira is our goalie…not even playing in the NHL at the moment (still developing I get that)
Nico Daws…before utica went on their win streak, they’ve lost the last 13 (not all on him I know)
John Gibson…too old
Hellebuyck…old, doesnt win in the playoffs, contract too big/will ask for a lot
Swayman…wants big contract but hasn’t played a full season or hasn’t proven much
Obviously we drove out vitek/blackwood
Exactly what I was worried we were getting with the fluke and easy shots going in. But also much better than last year, the high danger saves have also been incredible. And at least so far you cant say we would have been better off getting Ulmark

Markstrom is a carbon copy of Brodeur without the stick handling. Stops shots he has no business even seeing, only to allow an unscreened wrist shot from the blue line. Deja vu.
It feels like they get no help in the first period.
Maybe it’s a high bar but Markstrom needs to be a difference maker, not just better than what we had. Allen has been very good as a number 2. Problem is, if he plays better than Markstrom, he will still be number 2
We should have been in the Askarov bid.
I think it’s fine. Both have had great games and bad games. All goalies have that. From what we had and where we are in the standings, I’m not worried yet
I have no commentary except to notice our prior goaltending battery is in 17th. T.T
Marky always lets in the first shot. Once you accept that it makes it easier to deal with.
