What problem does Winker solve for the Reds?
I thought they let him go because he can only hit righties and can’t play defense.
Maybe the plan is for him to DH against RHP? He was always one of my favorite Reds, so I guess that makes sense? I guess we’re doing the ole Moneyball routine again. Trying to find a lefty and righty that add up to a full player?
Real question though: Does Brad Pitt approve?
I mean, I’ll finally be able to wear my Winker jersey again if he comes back, so that’s a plus.
The only thing this does is has him replace Benson and platoon with Fairchild/Steer but I don’t know what this does to help really. Especially defensively.
Now if the idea is to replace Benson and Fairchild with Winker and either Profar or O’Neill then I can be convinced overall. Still not great defensively though.
