‘An atmosphere of love and support’: Valji on Calgary’s tribute to Gaudreau brothers

TSN Calgary Bureau Chief Salim Valji joins Jay Onrait from the Saddledome to describe what the atmosphere was like during the emotional pre-game tribute for Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, and shares what the mindset was like for some of the players that he spoke to after the game.

  1. The flames did a lacklustre job at this Johnny tribute for a number of reasons. First after making such a big spectacle of inviting the family here, the flames didn’t raise a Gaudreau banner to the rafters, they didn’t retire his #13, they didn’t even wear a jersey patch of #13 on their jerseys like Columbus did, they didn’t even honor the gaudreau family with a special silver or golden stick. All they did was a video tribute after all the lead up to the game? Epic fail

  2. Well done to the Flames organization. George canyon sure did a good job on the heartbreaking version of ‘go Johnny go’. All the love I saw from the players. Even just seeing Conny playing with John’s kids. I really got the feeling that the Gaudreau’s felt the love last night from the folks at the ‘dome ❤️
