In 2019 tennis fans witnessed a once in lifetime match on the tennis circuit.
Serena Williams and Roger Federer kicked the year off with a bang as they played against one another in a mixed doubles match.
The iconic duo faced one another while representing their respective countries at the Hopman Cup in Perth, Australia.
This took place before the Australian Open and this was a very special way to prepare for the first Grand Slam of the season.

Tennis fans treated to a historic moment in tennis when Serena Williams and Roger Federer played a mixed doubles match against each other.
At the 2019 Hopman Cup Williams teamed up with fellow American Francis Tiafoe to take on Federer and his Swiss compatriot Belinda Bencic.
The legends went toe-to-toe, with Williams once serving to Federer at 194kmh, sending a statement of intent to the 20-time Grand Slam winner.
But Federer rose to the occasion and raised his level in the short and electric rallies, supported well by Bencic who hit some impressive winners.
The mixed doubles contest, which was played under Fast4 format rules, was won by the Swiss team. Federer and Bencic defeated Williams and Tiafoe 4-2, 4-3 (5-3) in 46 minutes, to win the deciding match in the Hopman Cup tie after they were even at 1-1.

Williams and Federer thoroughly entertained the crowd in their Hopman Cup mixed doubles contest.
They created a rare moment in tennis where icons from the ATP and WTA Tour were able to play against one another in a competitive match.
Post match Williams and Federer spoke about their battle before taking a selfie with one another on court.
“It was so fun. This is super cool that we get to do it at such a pinnacle point of our careers,” Williams said. “This guy is great, both off the court and on the court.”
Federer added: “I think his serve is super-underestimated. It’s a killer serve, you can’t read it. I watched him all the time and I never knew how amazing it was.
“It was great fun. I really enjoyed playing against Serena. What an honour. She’s a great champion, you see how focused she is and I love that about her.”
