Before the modern setup of AHL top level and ECHL second level minor league affiliate, there were multiple pro minor leagues NHL teams could be an affiliated with. The Firebirds during their time in the NAHL,from 1974-77, were the second affiliate of the Flyers. In 1977 the NAHL fold and the team moved to the AHL.

  1. I played in the Junior Firebirds back in the day. We sometimes had mini games between periods at the civic center. We also played some home games there. Locker room was on like the third floor. We would run down the stairs to the game.

  2. Cleanest one I’ve ever seen. My uncle worked for Mitchel and Ness in the 70s and kept his custom firebirds it looks so good

  3. I remember seeing them at the Civic Center when I was a kid; have great but very vague memories.

  4. Also forgot to mention. Our favorite retired former radio color commentator Steve Coates played for the Firebirds in the AHL

  5. Went to many Firebirds games with my Dad, good times. I had forgotten they were affiliated with the Flyers, I thought they were independent.

Love the logo, love their sweaters. I don’t know why no pro team has picked up that green/yellow/red combo.

  6. Went to a few of those games. And a hockey match broke out. High scoring and a lot of fights. Phila. Conention center. Near penn uni. One night they had 50 cent beer. Almost turned into a riot 😝😝😝😝

  7. There’s a youth team out in Lancaster that used to use that exact logo with the Flyers color scheme. Now they use the Coachella Firebirds logo. In college I’d skate at their rink on the weekends. Thanks for bringing back a nice memory.
