One of the biggest talking points heading into 2025 is the player-coach partnership between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic.

The pair shocked the world when it was announced the Brit would join the 24-time Grand Slam champion’s coaching team just days after Rafael Nadal played his final match.

They are set to work together at least until the conclusion of the Australian Open, and all eyes will be on the pair during their time together at Melbourne Park.

Many of those in the tennis world have given their thoughts on the unlikely partnerships, and now former top 10 player Andrea Petkovic has done the same.

What does Andrea Petkovic think of Andy Murray coaching Novak Djokovic?

After splitting with coach Goran Ivanesevic in March, Djokovic had been searching for an ideal replacement.

It took until the end of the season to announce the man to fill the Croatian’s shoes in Andy Murray, who was one of Djokovic’s fiercest rivals on court.

The Olympic champion stressed wanting someone in his corner who has been in his shoes, and who is more equipped than a player he has played against since they were juniors.

Many fans are looking forward to seeing how they will work together, and so is Petkovic, but she has questions about one thing.

“I think Andy will be an incredible coach one day. Whenever you hear him talk about tennis and tactics and strategy he has an incredible tennis mind.

“Some players are really good tactically but don’t actually know what to work on on court to achieve that tactical intelligence but he had both.

“The only thing that I [have concerns about] is has Andy let go of the tennis player persona to be there fully for Novak without having his own thing in the way? I have just finally let go of saying ‘I used to be a tennis player’.

“Now I say I work in TV, I used to be a tennis player, I am a writer. But a year ago, I was already a year retired, I would blurt out I was a tennis player and then had to realise that I am not. That’s the only thing that has a question mark for me.”

Will Andy Murray be with Novak Djokovic in Brisbane?

Djokovic is set to compete at the Brisbane International before competing at the Australian Open.

However, it has been reported by Sky Sports News that Murray is not expected to be in Djokovic’s box in Brisbane to start the season.

The tournament is set to commence on December 29 and will serve as a key warmup event for the Australian Open.

Djokovic heads into the new season aiming to win the Australian Open for a record-extending 11th time.

Furthermore, he is trying to win his first major since the 2023 US Open, after going through an entire campaign without winning a Grand Slam for the first time since 2017.
