  1. I know this news broke less than an hour ago but I wonder what a Crochet extension looks like.

Not out of the question they tack on another 6-7 years you’d have to imagine right?

  2. Usually the team that gets the better player wins the deal.

It’s a big haul for the White Sox but no Casas which is huge, Wilkeman looks like a bust Chase Medroith is likely a 2 WAR ceiling I think the big gets are Teel and Montgomery both guys the Red Sox drafted great drafting by the Sox.

I think not giving up Mayer, Anthony, Casas or Campbell makes it a fine deal.

It’s only a good deal if they have a plan to sign him if not than I don’t love it as much.

  3. Honestly.

I’m not the highest on Crochett but we kept our 3 highest upside prospects.

Montgomery hurts… but I wonder if we had to give someone like him up so it was headlined by Teel instead of Mayer (who still has higher upside)

I still think we need a guy like Burnes who we can depend on for 180-200 solid innings.

    Good job Breslow

  4. Neutral observer here-what’s with the full court press to keep Casas? He’s a 1B/DH-only guy who’s had injury issues and been merely “good” when healthy. I’ve seen suggestions he shouldn’t be dealt for a Bryan Woo-level starter. That seems crazy to me. No chance the Mariners would do that deal anyhow

  5. I’ll be honest, I’ve been very anti-picking up Crochet and I definitely wanted Kyle Teel to stick around, but I’ll be happy to be proven wrong.

  6. Now, let’s trade one of the ones we kept for gilbert or kirby.

    And they’d have something going!

  7. Beautiful! And humorous on the heels of the meltdown that happened on this subreddit over the last 24 hours.

  8. Seems like a good deal on both sides. Losing Teel stings, but really happy we didn’t part with Casas, Anthony or Campbell. Now we gotta work on getting him extended. Lets turn this into momentum and make a couple more additions.

  9. If they can also get Burnes (no reason why they shouldn’t be able to) and Teo, I would consider this offseason a B+ which is great compared to my D- score I gave them last year.

I mean that’s a solid team right there.

  10. Would be a great time to double down on getting a respectable rotation and giving Burnes whatever it takes. That along with all the prospects coming along and I’m definitely in on the upcoming season.

  11. Horrible trade— I can’t believe it! We lost this trade. Teel is an amazing catcher and possible hall of famer.

  12. I don’t know how I feel about this, because I really liked Teel. But, assuming Crochet wasn’t just a flash in the pan this could be a steal.

  13. Should have added Robert Jr. to the deal and kicked in another one or 2 prospects for our RH hitter

  14. Genuine question, is keeping Wong at everyday catcher the move or do you think they replace him / move him to backup? I was excited to see Kyle Teel hopefully get called up this year…

  15. A step in the right direction but this guys career high in IP came last season and he stunk in July/Aug until they cut back his workload. This guy has talent but he is far from a sure thing in terms of being a reliable top of the rotation guy.

Still, he’s better than anyone else they have on the roster. I’d like to see another move or two to bolster the staff. You probably aren’t getting all of that plus a big bat for the middle of the order, so you need to hope they don’t trade any of the young core guys that will make the ML roster and that said guys will continue to develop

  16. IMO getting Crochet without giving up Casas, Abreu, or any of the top 3 prospects is a coup.

Crochet had a good ERA and racked up strikeouts last season, but if you look under the hood he was legitimately one of the best SPs in baseball. Out of all pitchers with at least 100 IP, he had the best K% and xFIP, and his FIP was 5th behind Sale, Snell, Skenes, and Skubal. That’s elite company, and keep in mind he’s only 25 and cost controlled for 2 more years

  17. White Sox Fan here. Congrats on fleecing us yet again. Always take the proven talent for prospects

  18. No one seems to be talking about Teel’s defensive metrics which were not great. Pretty consistently exhibits poor framing if memory serves. He’ll probably hit for average in the majors but he’s the weak link compared to Anthony Mayer and Campbell. Def okay with this trade if they extend Crochet.

  19. Why did we do this? We could have just signed a free agent pitcher. WOW we are so cheap

  20. Crotch rocket in flight. Afternoon delight. 🚀 I mean Crochet. Silly typo. We got Crochet with our giving up Casas, Mayer, Campbell, or Anthony. Kind of a big win but we’re risking Montgomery for him. We can assume the risk cause of other plethora outfielder prospects. I have been daydreaming about a Duran/Anthony/Campbell/Montgomery bash brothers outfield similar to Canseco and McGwire but with four nasty outfielders. One of those bubbles have popped so I guess swap The Password with Montgomery.

  21. Hot take but as good as Montgomery is, our outfield is already good enough (Rafaela, Duran, Abreu) with enough solid prospects that he was only here to play well in the future, not to fill a gap. If we could get value out of him, that’s a win for us

  22. I’d be much happier about this if they also spend some money to get some other players.

  23. Crochet is only 25 and was a relief pitcher up until this past season. His salary is only $3 mil and he’s not a free agent until after the 2026 season. Hopefully this frees up money for them to spend on some offense to bolster the lineup, but I won’t hold my breath.

  24. Great job getting a top end pitcher, but there absolutely needs to be more. If this is all they do, this off-season is still a failure.

  25. As bad as the White Sox major league roster was, I expected a proven MLB player like Wilyer to go in any trade for Crochet.

Crochet’s upside is off the charts, while keeping Abreu is a huge W to me.
