2016. Back when one of the crazy moments that season was the Mariners came back to win 16-13, Bartolo Colon hit a homer at Petco, and Ryan Schimpf was maybe the future of the org, and back at a time when Tatis Sr. was the most well known Tatis at the time (no disrespect to his career and 2 grand slams vs. the Dodgers)
> johnson has gotten his chances in the sox rotation and hasn’t done much with them but am i crazy for thinking he could put up an ERA around half a run worse than shields without costing the money?
Erik Johnson had a 9.15 ERA in 4 starts for the Padres (Shields was 4.28 for the Padres that year), and never cracked the majors again
u/janitorofsandiego is very present in that thread which is awesome
It’s still crazy to me how much a crapshoot baseball recruiting can be. My other sport is soccer and nearly every team has teenagers playing in their squad.
Meanwhile it’s only the generational talents in baseball who get starts as teenagers. Like there was that AJ clip where he said he’s been looking at Sasaki since he was a high schooler.
Not really sure what my point was but yeah happy Tatis turned out quite well 👍🏽

The real legacy of the Bartolo Colón dinger.
Hindsight is always 50/50
Honestly love looking back at freezing cold takes
Tatis takes aside, loved [this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/4mk5ky/sources_the_minor_leaguers_the_padres_are_getting/d3w38kd/):
