  1. Over the past month or so:

    We’ve won 1 lost 2

    Won 1 lost 6

    Won 1 lost TBD

Not a great way to get to the playoffs but a good way to get a top 10 pick.

I was watching a video on the struggles of Buffalo and Detroit is eerily similar. In 2018 (?) Buffalo was 1 point from a playoff spot they’ve never gotten that close again.

We have done a few things differently. Buffalo has been burning though GM’s and coaches. They also traded quite a few high profile players along with highly drafted players.

Ownership has been very patient with our coaches and executive staff. Other than clearing house from Holland we haven’t seen any movement of our top players.

  2. Good morning Wings fans. Don’t worry. They can’t hurt us today! Thankfully the Griffins play tonight cause Ottawa and Carolina doesn’t sound necessarily thrilling to me right now, but it’s not until 9:00 tonight. So that’s fun.

  3. One benefit of last year’s “flash in the pan” is that we tricked Mo and Lucas Raymond into thinking this team had some sort of upward trajectory that they could buy into. I’m sure they’re disappointed they have to stick around for another 10 years of losing, but at least from our end we could extend a couple of the few bright spots we have on this roster.

  4. Wings 100% made the right move not bringing Sprong back, but I’ll say that I really miss having someone that plays his role. I think there’s a lot of value on having a depth scorer like that. Having someone that scores at a crazy pace that you can get tons of production out of while burying / giving 4th line & PP minutes felt very valuable. Wings got a good amount of scoring out of that. Obviously his defense was bad, but that’s why the ability to give him 7 mins a game and still get points out of him was clutch. Wish there was someone else that could step into a similar role and bring some depth goals

  5. So sick of this management. If you can’t get the most out of your players you’re a bad coach. Philly is in a wildcard spot, that’s all coaching.

  6. What’s keeping me afloat is that our young guns have looked pretty good on the ice. Kasper is a dawg, Ed is really coming into his own, Johanssen has been fine, he’ll figure it out, Berger has looked great. Ray and Larkin and Seider have been solid for the most part as well. Not all hope is lost. It’s dwindling, but not gone. If things work out, this will be the group (plus some other prospects,) that lead us to at least post season hockey for (hopefully) years to come.

  7. I think the best possible outcome here would be getting a top 10 pick, and throwing 13 mil at Raantanan this summer. I feel like Danielson will be in the same boat as Kasper was this year and we’ll see him start in GR and come up and stick early on. At that point, if they haven’t already, 1, possibly 2 of Copp Compher and Rasmussen needs to be shipped out. On defense? I don’t feel too great about the prospects after ASP so they’ll need to perform some black majick on that one.

  8. If Lalonde remains the coach for the rest of the season, the pressure on Steve Yzerman this offseason has to be enormous. The brand of hockey we’re putting on the ice right now is unacceptable—it’s honestly tough to watch. We’re sitting near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, and it feels like we’re getting embarrassed every night. Players who’ve never scored more than 18 goals in a season are putting up four against us and laughing on the bench. It’s beyond frustrating.

Heading into the season, I expected us to narrowly miss the playoffs again—not to be in contention for a top draft pick. Lalonde’s coaching style is some of the worst I’ve seen. Larkin had to argue with him to call a timeout last night (a decision that most coaches make instinctively in that situation) only for it to result in an empty-net goal after the chaos that followed the faceoff. The worst part is it isn’t the first time Larkin has been visibly upset with a coaching decision. We even have Copp coming out in press conferences questioning our strategy to play low event hockey when we have a lead instead of sticking with a more offensive style. It’s simply horrid coaching.

He also refuses to take accountability for his mistakes. At this point, it’s clear: this is one of the worst coaching hires in franchise history. It’s time to move on. Fire him already.

  9. While I believe Lalonde is the main problem right now, I’m fully prepared for him to last the rest of the season while Yzerman tries to find a good replacement and positions the team to have a better roster at least by the trade deadline.

  10. I watch a Netflix show on my phone during the game with the game on my main tv. Half way through the 2nd I switched, game on phone and show on tv. What a great indicator of the state of this season.

  11. If we win the lotto, I will take one Hagens please.

Since we will not win the lotto, please get another Mo/Ed tier guy at six…

  12. This season has got me damn near the point where I’m going to have to stop watching. I can’t be angry and disappointed 3-4 days a week. At least back in the Erne, Namestnikov, Fabbri days the guys played hard. We just don’t anymore and I can’t stand seeing it.

  13. There’s certainly no telling if it would have changed the outcome, but I’m still thinking about that dude jumping Seider, then continuing to punch him while he was on the ice while a ref stared very intently at the two of them. Laughten scored like 30 seconds later.

  14. I only got to watch the first half of the game last night, so before any scoring started. The part that annoyed me were the Wings clearing attempts, which on multiple occasions went directly to the stick of an opposing player. It felt as though we were once again playing “poke and hope” hockey.

  15. There are some positives to take from this season:

    1. We overperformed last year and expected regression. Now we’re performing exactly where we should be given the talent we have, so no one is getting by on insane PDO.

    2. There’s more youth in the lineup. We’re finally starting to see the Yzerplan come to fruition, and Berggren, Kasper, Edvinsson are now full time NHL’ers alongside Raymond and Seider, and honestly I wouldn’t say any of these guys are a problem, and the high end guys all look like studs. Cossa got a game in the NHL and did pretty well all things considered. We’re all down in the dumps and angry, but the future is very, very bright in Detroit.

    3. Punting on the season gives us a chance to finally get a franchise player in the draft to build around. Any one of Misa, Martone, or Hagans would be an excellent addition, and I’d feel a lot more comfortable trying to pull this group out of a rebuild with one of those guys. Ideally, I’d want to strip it down for next year to tank for McKenna, because that would basically alter our franchise’s future overnight, but we’re not going to get him.

    4. Raymond looks like a superstar in the making. If this roster actually had some depth to it, he’d be producing even more.

    5. We don’t have to worry about any expensive long-term deals in the off-season, Raymond, Seider, and Larkin are already locked up long-term and on very good contracts.

    6. I’m fine with trading Patrick Kane and any other piece. He was terrific last year, but something just seems off now or age is finally catching up to him. It’s been real having him here, have his jersey to prove it, but if we can get a 2nd for him at the deadline, it might be best for both parties to move on here.

  16. Steve? Are you there? Are you watching this shitshow? Are you talking to the players?

Wake the fuck up dude. Lalonde is pissing down his leg and pooping the bed. FIRE HIM.

  17. When you lose all of your offensive and defensive depth scoring, you’re bound to take a step back. Perron, Fabbri, Sprong Ghost Walman. That right there accounts for all of the inflated shooting percentage that they so desperately miss this year.
