[Friedman] Engvall and Wahlstrom (NYI) on waivers

  1. This must mean the cavlary is ready. I never found engvall lazy till this year after seeing how good he was for the 5 games he tried i was wrong. Whalstrom it’s just time to move on

  2. Duclair and Barzal were skating in regular practice jerseys recently so probably coming back very soon. Also wahlstrom is not an NHL level player. He loses puck battles constantly and routinely cannot get the puck off the boards and out of the zone, doesn’t seem to have the NHL level hockey sense at all, his skating isn’t great which doesn’t allow him to get open to use the only thing he’s good at, his shot. Engvall, no real surprise. He’s very inconsistent.

  3. At least Wahlstrom gave me good memories in my NHL 22 franchise. Back to back 50 goal seasons, good times.

  4. Honestly both are such a disappointment…engvall because he would be good if he would just be physical on the puck and wahlstrom because i really had high hopes that he would become a solid player

  5. I’m not going to lose any sleep if Wahlstrom gets claimed, but he’s better than Matt Martin, and it’s pretty clear at this point that the only reason he’s still here is because Lou wants him to get 1000 games.

  6. I am happy to see these moves. There is a lot of hard decisions that have to be made. Not happy that Lou signed Engval for so long. I think he makes these desperate contracts because he wants to win a trade. With regards to Walstrom, he should’ve been dumped or traded last season. Now we have to waive him because nobody wants to pay for him. Now he will go for free.

  7. Wahlstrom being waived is honestly a good thing for the team. For 3 seasons he has basically been the team’s 14th forward but because coaches were unwilling to play him (while other NHL teams were unwilling to trade for him), it meant the Isles had a 13 forward roster. There was never any flexibility to call up, claim or trade for a player to potentially bring some spark to the team.

Short term, I just don’t see how you can waive Wahlstrom over Martin (possibly cap related) but long term this had to happen.

  9. Damn, right after Engvall had a great game too. Guess it wasn’t enough. You kinda have to feel a little bad for the dude though, he’s an ok bottom 6 winger who’s team hired a coach that happens to despise the way he plays.

Anyway… this hopefully means Duclair and Barzal are back.

  10. That Engvall contract is one of the dumbest moves I’ve ever seen a GM make and I’m an Islanders fan.
