This year has made it very clear that none of the gas bags have a clue. JJ is a project like a Jordan Love or an Aaron Rodgers, Sam Darnold is a complete QB playing better than both id add the vikings have 76 million in cap space for next year
Jj McCarthy starts next year , Darnold deserves a good contract as a starter somewhere we love him here but we drafted a rookie and he needs to get his opportunity and we need to start building our team
The sports media is hilarious. Minnesota would be idiots to let this guy walk.
It's been beat to death in the comments already but yeah, JJ was never the intended starter this season. Sam was signed BEFORE the draft, KOC literally said he intended for Sam to start, AND KOC infamously quoted that organizations ruin talented new QBs by starting them immediately. If Sam sucked out the gate then yeah he may have been benched for JJ. But here we are!
Don’t get me started on Florio. This guy literally knows nothing.
It’s the coaching, Sam Darnold is only good because of Coach Kevin O’Connell. If he wants to be a successful QB and has half a brain, he will sign a friendly contract.
It's not just assuming DJ is gonna be Sam Darnold if needs be next year. It's also assumed Sam is going to be a mistake to pay like Jones was. Only difference being that Jones was no where near this good. I get there's the fear there of paying the man after Cousins and DJ have rinsed organisations, but if you can get away with a 35 mil contract I would do it. Or franchise tag him
Was there not just a quarterback competition in Pittsburgh? Not too outlandish
he did not buy anything he earned it.
Media that don't follow the team full-time are always wrong.
If he isn't in Minny…I think the 49ers might make a move on him
Darnold has taken the same track as Baker Mayfield. The similarities are too accurate.
The Rams are the obvious choice
Why wouldn't they just retain Darnold on a nice contract, start Darnold and let Mccarthy develop?
What happens if they let Darnold walk and Mccarthy struggle? Let McCarthy develop. It works.
Focus needs to offensive line a perhaps defensive live in the draft/free agency during the off season. They are doing fine with what they have. So…yeah…just enjoy.
In what world did you think JJ was the starting QB?
They will discuss the mutual benefits and fairness with Sam should they "tag" him….and with little argument, they ultimately will. Sam will view his position as, "I will be getting paid 4 times what they gave me last year… do I really need that to become 4.1 or 4.2 times as much? I'm comfortable here, I know the team, I know the offense, they already like me, and they gave me a chance to resurrect my career." And a gracious and "even-keeled" Sam will say to himself," I'll stay, even if I can get a little better deal". somewhere else.
Sam BEEN had this in him, people just weren’t paying attention
Rams and Steelers would jump at Darnold. Vikings need to keep Darnold. What if the Vikings know Week 17 they can't win division and have #4 spot locked up. Then Week 17 play Daniel Jones with KOC's QB whispering. Jones lights up the Lions week 17 and then the Vikings Trade Jones?
JJ McCarthy was being outplayed by Sam Darnold all camp… He wasn't going to start.
JJ and JA are the reason for the success. Sam is fine but good luck w average receivers elsewhere
This segment seems out-of-touch with likely outcomes
As a pro Sam jet fan I hope he comes back. JJ was playing vs second stringers during preseason.
I'm calling it now, the Rams.
Darnold will not have much success with another team. The reason he's on fire this year is because of the system in Minnesota and because of Coach Kevin. Coach is the right guy for Darnold. Even Daniel Jones would have success under this coach.
Crazy idea. As far as we know, Giants wanted to trade up for JJ McCarthy. If the Vikings maybe found in Sam Darnold someone who plays good in there system, the Giants could trade for JJ McCarthy 🤔
Dude, no chance he's a backup. He's shown a top 5 qb ceiling.
Hes gonna get tagged and traded to the rams
What they going to do when Sam wins the Super Bowl? Let him walk to start a Rookie…..LOL
I love that the vikes have this dilemma, so much better than previous years
Some of the most Boneheaded, stupid opinions I’ve heard in a long time
He looks like a star to me! That arm talent is rare… Btw, the plan was for Sam to start the season all along but JJ was pressing him by the 3rd preseason game… The rest of what you say is pure Florio speculation… Fact…
The 49ers should seriously consider bringing him back. He is a huge upgrade over Brock Purdy’s greatest shortcoming, arm strength.
Florio is full of crap. Darnold was always going to start week one.
stafford will retire and he will be a lock ti LA
I think Darnold would probably leave money on the table to avoid a dysfunctional team. I am going to throw San Francisco 49ers as an interesting thought. Do you pay Purdy 'franchise' money…ie…$50 mill+ per or Sam Darnold at significant savings?
People will look at him and the receivers he has and offer him a lower tier salary.
The odds of JJ ever becoming as good as Darnold has played this year are low. The Vikings almost have to try to get Darnold back next year or at least franchise him.
Mike Florio is not a Vkings fan.
The Vikings MUST resign Darnold
Still viking have the best WR,TE, 3 wr ,any good QB should shin 👌, let see if Sam can make a ,SB run you knew
