Pirates acquire INF/OF Enmanuel Valdez from Red Sox in exchange for RHP Joe Vogatsky

  3. Honestly don’t hate this. He was decent in Boston in 2023 and wasn’t great last year as the league adjusted. Seems to have some power and has decent walk and contact rates. Also has a minor league option left. 

    Dude is clearly brought in as a lotto ticket depth for a no named reliever. If this works out Cherington looks like a genius. 

    Still need a corner OF bat that will start 150 games and 2 relievers but this move is okay in my book.

  9. I don’t have a problem with the deal because Vogatsky needs to go a long way to reach the bigs. Even though Valdez sucks, he’s still a body who has had some success in the minors that hasn’t translated to the bigs. Maybe the lack of pressure playing for the Pirates helps him figure it out.
