Fans have every right to be pissed but there are lots of extreme takes. Here are my thoughts:
1. Mike Macdonald adjusted well defensively second half. No matter what, we know that he is the real deal and we found a coach that has successfully improved our defense with a solid foundation to build off of. The offense is the problem now.
2. This team was always going to be limited by the OL from the beginning. As much as JS has infamously dismissed it, he definitely has to know this is an area of priority in the offseason. Unless he wants to piss his job away, he’s gotta hammer this coin out and draft or sign until this is not the glaring weakness it is now. He called the guards overdrafted and overpaid, which may be true, but he didn’t say they weren’t important. I don’t care if you take a guard in the first when he’s a second-round talent. If he plugs this leaky dam I’ll take it.
3. Offensive scheme is the issue. With Geno going out, we saw just how much it was him carrying that offense. Grubb is not making it easy for any of the players and he’s failing in basic game planning. As much as the OL sucks, he’s gotta make up for it with better play calling and preparation. MM probably moves on from Grubb but regardless, we need to stabilize this side of the field. I hope that Grubb figures things out, we win out, and we make a push in the playoffs, but this really feels like a systemic issue with his scheme that can’t be fixed in 3 games.
4. Howell is not the answer. He never was, but this game made it clear. Geno is also not the long-term answer. JS for sure wants to draft a quarterback. So far, he hasn’t, but he hasn’t missed any diamonds either so I give him a pass. But Geno has clear flaws with decision-making that’s keeping him from being a great consistent QB. Seahawks should extend him to max 2 years and start swinging in the draft. We might not get a Lamar, Mahomes, or Allen, but we may get a Jordan Love to sit for 2-3 years. I also can’t say I’d be surprised if JS moves on from Geno to pursue Sam Darnold. Regardless, we can’t be content with him forever. He’s our best option right now but he won’t be for long. Make the best of his time by developing a potential starter under him.
5. Seahawks organization or ownership needs to address the elephant that is season ticket selling. It’s just untenable at this rate to maintain any semblance of home field advantage when half the stadium are not our fans. Whether it’s adopting soccer-style ticket transfers among members, tracking id’s for season ticket holders, or JUST MAKING THE PRICES CHEAPER, they’ve got to put a stop to this before it gets out of control. Oh, and winning might help.
I wouldn’t mind the amount of season ticket reselling if there was an actual issue selling tickets.
**But there’s a near decade waiting list for season tickets**
You can’t have a stupid long waiting list and have everyone with a season ticket using it as a reselling investment.
I don’t even care if they are selling to home fans, the whole idea of selling season tickets for profit should be stamped out (in UK soccer matches, this practice is straight up illegal under criminal law). And if season ticket holders can’t make at least a majority of games in a season, they should just lose their seat the next season regardless of excuse. The waiting list is too long for you to hold that ticket.
