Ruben Amorim raised eyebrows with his team selection for Manchester United’s derby clash against Manchester City.
In his first Manchester derby, Ruben Amorim was not afraid to make two bold calls in his squad selection.
Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were left out completely from the matchday squad, with Amorim hinting at low standards in his pre-match comments.
“We try to evaluate everything: training, performance, game performance, engagement with the team-mates, pushing the team-mates up,” Amorim said prior to kick-off.
Amorim’s decision was justified by Amad, who inspired United’s 2-1 comeback at the Etihad Stadium after starring in the No.10 role.
It is no secret that Ineos plan to overhaul the current squad and United only have six unsellables that are not for sale in 2025. Marcus Rashford didn’t make the cut.

Ineos support Amorim’s decision to drop Rashford and Garnacho from the squad, with the club chiefs firmly behind the new Portuguese head coach.
Rashford supported United from home during their derby victory, but there is no doubt he will want to reclaim his starting spot under Amorim.
However, reports this week have suggested that United are open to selling Rashford for £80m less than he was valued just two years ago.
There have been concerns over Rashford’s attitude with sources describing him as “impenetrable” from a coaching standpoint. If things do not improve, an exit in 2025 is becoming increasingly likely.
Roy Keane’s stance on Marcus Rashford leaving Man United
If Rashford ever was to leave United, it would be an emotional departure for all involved. He has grown up at the club and burst through from the academy.
However, as pointed out by United legend Roy Keane, it might be the best option for all parties if Rashford pursued a new challenge.

Via Sky Sports, Keane said: “A move for Marcus would suit the player – a new challenge for him.
“He’s been there a long time. When you’re at a big club and your attitude is not right – and it hasn’t been great recently – sometimes it’s good to part ways.”
