Future back up? Veggie is crushing it right now seems like a wasted trade
I wonder what the trade would look like for this to make sense?
I am loving Veggie now, but I think this article does a good job in bring up his streaky nature. We do need someone long term. My guess is when Veggie becomes UFA, he will either be signed to a 3 year deal and we may him a decent amound (like 4) or he moves on to another team, and we have Stauber and Ingram be the netminders. But that would mean resigning Stauber.
UHC still needs time to be on the cup run. They have likely 3-5 years from that point as the prospects right now come into play. Keller, Cooley, Guenther, Iginla, Beuadoin. More are in the pipeline.
Right now, goaltending is being our most shakey. If you look at teams who compete deep into the playoffs, and even look at the winning goaltenders since 2010 for the Stanley Cup, they are all big names. Goaltending is huge, and it seems like many are focused on the D and not eyeing the need of long term goaltending.
Our goal tending is all about the hot hand. Ingram had it the first few games. Veggies had it for a bit. Stauber had it in Vegas. Hot hands get cold when they’re over worked. Gotta get the balance just right. I don’t think we have it figured out.
