Looking at the pool if I’m being honest I don’t see this going backwards in the next 2-5 years.
If this year ends up being a write off, move the UFAs and take the pick. I don’t think it really impacts the long term because it’s been the veterans killing us for the most part. As long as we don’t repeat summer 2024 again…

Is there anyone is recent memory who’s made it harder to defend against the “got paid and kicked back” narrative than Bertuzzi? His play this year is wild lol.
Why are the EBUG rules so stupid and why haven’t they been fixed? Reading about the dude for the Ottawa game. Rush him into the stadium last minute, have him sign a tryout contract, but then he can’t sit on bench because each team might have to use him? This is a pro sport? This screams cheap bush league owner shit to deny a needed roster spot.

So a week till Christmas and I’m definitely not feeling it yet. Maybe it’s the weather, it’s been warm and dry on the Front Range or maybe it’s because I don’t have small kids or maybe I’ve just gotten old
Let’s rewind back to the beginning of the season and look at how this team looked on paper.
**Kane** – Was expected to be a significant offensive contributor. When he joined us last season, he was producing around a point per game.
**Tarasenko** – Was expected to contribute about the same as Perron did last year.
**Gustafsson** – Wasn’t expected to offensively be as good as Ghost, but was expected to be a defensive upgrade.
**Ras/Veleno/Copp/Berggren** – Were expected to occasionally chip in and provide secondary scoring depth.
On paper, if you combine these guys with Larkin, Raymond, DeBrincat, Seider, Ed, and Talbot in net, they shouldn’t be fighting for last place in the division. Yet for some reason, here we are. I fully agree with what Steve Dangle said after the Leafs game when he noted that this year the Wings have been “sneakily bad”.
So has the Yzerplan failed? Yes and no. Short term, we shit the bed this year – but I feel this can be fixed by bringing in better short term FA’s to help the kids. In terms of what “better FA’s” means, it feels like the team needs more grit. By this I mean guys who are difficult to get off the puck, or can consistently go into the corners and win their 1:1 battles. Right now, we’re way too soft. Kane loses the puck whenever anyone comes within a three foot radius of him, Ras spends way too much time on his ass, Tarasenko mainly just floats around waiting for a loose puck, etc.. Long term, I still feel that we’re on the right track, especially with the kids that are currently developing both on the team and in the system.
