Jordan Davis has been amazing this year. I like many fans was very hard on him because I wanted him to be Fletcher Cox 2.0 but that unrealistic and unfair. When he still has a long way to go, he is off to a great start. And with Vic couching him I believe he’ll get there.

I’d still say he is a bit of a bust. Don’t get me wrong, he has been fantastic in his role this year. The only issue is that you don’t draft somebody that high in the draft just to be a situational run stopper.
He makes it nearly impossible for teams to run up the middle on us

Couching is important when players are young. A good couch will give them the comfort they need while watching game footage and going over the playbook.

Dude doesn’t even need to develop any moves, but I hope he does. Eventually his bull rush will be enough. Dude is 24. He may never end up being the perfect player that his measurables suggest he can be, but his best days are ahead of him. Him and Jalen Carter as a duo will be talked about for a long time in this city.
This is just his first year with Vic so the more time these players give his system, the better they’ll be. We just need to let him develop and get stronger and hopefully we will get occasional pass rush snaps out of him.
He does EXACTLY what he was drafted to do and anyone who thought he was gonna be Fletcher 2.0 didn’t know ball. Because he never got sacks or deep into the backfield after the qb.
He didn’t create much pressure and didn’t generate sacks in college. He was the focal point of Georgias defense playing zero technique, lining up over center as a two gap run stopper, the equivalent of an iceberg allowing LBs to fire off around him like clingon warships. Also allows Carter to do his thing. Problem with previous years is we didn’t have the linebackers. “Two on me, someone is free.”
I think eagles fans really overrate Davis. It honestly reminds me a lot of early Ben Simmons takes. I think he’s a fine player but he’s definitely not what you’d hope for from the 13th pick.
Generally I find that most fans struggle to fairly evaluate DTs, and being sandwiched between *pass rushing* DTs like Fletch and Carter puts an unfair bias on the evaluation of Davis.
Davis has been manipulating the run game almost every down he’s on the field and has been moving blockers on pass rush. He doesn’t need to come up with sacks because Carter, Sweat and Smith are all completely capable of that. It’s not shock that Russel Wilson struggled last weekend against our defense, and it starts with the interior line.
As Chris Long pointed out, when he was in STL, they were constantly coached to pressure Wilson from the interior, because he struggles the most when the center/guards fail their blocks.
Davis has been a solid starter quality DT, I think evaluating him on sacks and comparing him to Fletch and Carter paints an unrealistic imagine of what a DT should look like.
He is great for clogging up the middle and stopping the run, is he a 1st round pick that high I am still not sold. Having a great year though

I will say it has as much to do with Clint Hurtt, the DL coach, as it does Fangio. I don’t think Fangio spends a lot of time teaching these guys technique and making sure they are staying on top of the day-to-day stuff that is required to be successful. That is what the position coaches are for. Just like I am sure Kellen Moore isn’t spending a ton of time coaching up AJ or Saquon.
But Fletch is a 3 tech and jordan is a nose?
People were hoping jordan would be dexter lawrence, a dominant nose who could also pass rush. Hes not there yet but even Dex took a while to develop the pass rushing. Also thats an incredibly high bar.

My biggest issue with him was how high he was drafted. I know a lot of my friends were hoping for Kyle Hamilton who was drafted right after Davis.

People need to stop comparing him to guys like Donald, Chris Jones, Fletch and compare him to guys like Casey Hampton and Haloti Ngata. He’s basically a nose guard, his job is to eat up blocks and disrupt the run game, and he’s been doing that. If he eventually develops a pass rush, that’s just icing on the cake.
Well couched individuals can go far. Become Vice Presidents even.
There’s a difference in saying the fans expected something vs the organization’s projections. Davis was a part time run stuffer in college and blew up the combine. Howie is on record saying they think he has high upside as a pass rusher that was untapped. They projected a Dexter Lawrence type best case scenario. He has not shown the potential to be a plus pass rusher at the position.
He does exactly what he did in college and is now 3 years in. He does it at a high level but we have seen nothing to justify the 13th pick. The Ravens for example drafted Travis Jones in round 3 and is arguably a better player if not equal. Davis is a good role player but we know the Eagles didn’t draft him to remain a run stuffer and block occupier. So I think the judgement on him is pretty fair.
At this point in his career, BG was considered a bust. Look how that turned out. Let’s give JD some time to develop. Look at how a little development time has benefited Nakobe Dean and Nolan Smith.

That’s the type of player you can draft in the third round (Bennie Logan) or pay $4M/yr for in free agency ([Michael Pierce](https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/19379/michael-pierce)). You don’t spend a 13th overall pick on a 2-down run stuffer that only plays 20% of snaps in a rotation. Kyle Hamilton would’ve been the right pick in that spot, but the draft is a crapshoot and it’s only easy to tell in retrospect.
