  1. I’ve been saying this from day 1. This “just win your match up” mentality is not applicable when that match up is liable to shift, stunt, or even appear to shift or stunt. Our line hasn’t done it this season (or last) yet and we’re still looking around for answers. These are NFL professionals with egos that bar actual changes. It’s the mental aspect. It’s the algorithm. The timing. IF this, THEN that.

For example, IF my guy crashes down, THEN I swing him out OR pass him off, OR identify the man filling that gap (stunting lineman OR linebacker). It all happens fast but this is the only way to be a serious lineman in the NFL. Our guys have done it with other teams but now I’m convinced after all the time it is absolutely 100% the coaches that have not provided this way of thinking because it involves…thinking. I get that philosophy but it’s not the way of the NFL. Sometimes you have to outthink the opponent. We haven’t done that yet.

  2. Houston product Jordyn Brooks pinning Tytus on that first stunt. Just a fun fact. Also the one who hip dropped Mixon… was mad until I saw who it was. I’m sure he didn’t mean it 😂

  3. I played IOL for 4 years in highscool. Even I know that as soon as you see nothing outside, you turn your head inside, swivel your stance, and go throw your helmet into the ribcage of a fucking defensive player.

What I don’t understand is this has been a problem all season long. And every defensive coordinator takes advantage of it every week. Strausser not having done a better job of coaching against these standard twists and stunts is pure incompetence.

Slowik needs to adjust to this as well by covering the weakness. There need to be more plays where AT LEAST 2 receivers/pass catchers have breaking routes less than 5 yards. Make it a half field read and if it’s not there, CJ throws it away.

CJ could also do the o line a ton of help by STEPPING UP INTO THE POCKET. CJ’s first instincts this year have seemingly been to move laterally or backwards in the pocket. There have been several opportunities each game for him to hitch forward 2-3 steps and flick the ball out of his hands.

  4. We can obviously see how dogshit the interior has been, so I won’t comment on that, but man – Blake Fisher has been a pleasant surprise at RT. He’s really been holding his own out there. It hasn’t been perfect, but it’s been great for a rookie.
