  1. The corked bat incident is still wild. He made some mistakes in his post playing career too.

  2. Just come out and say you did steroids bro. Hall of fame ain’t an option anymore so just own it.

  3. That homerun chase between those two was a blast, but at what cost I guess. Like Bonds, I just learned to separate the who and the what and enjoy the show.

  4. He doesn’t need to apologize for anything. Everyone was juiced up back then. Shame on the cubs for waiting so long to acknowledge what he did for the team.

  5. The home run race brought so many people back to baseball after the strike

Who gives a fuck if he and McGwire were on roids they both should be in the hall

  6. He missed it again.

I had been a fan for a couple of years already but I fell in love with baseball in 1998 during that home run race. I was 12 years old growing up in a Dominican household in Washington heights. Where the entire community was obsessed with baseball because of Sammy. I say that because I would love to see him get celebrated for his contributions to the game. It would feel like a justification for the joy I felt that summer. But his denials and weird statements all these years are the reason why he is still shunned. Maybe this is just a start but he needs to be honest and put it all on the table in order to move forward.

  7. Sammy just doesn’t get it, and this proves it. Everyone knows you used steroids, everyone, but the dude still just can’t admit it. Falling back on the “everyone was doing it” wasn’t a valid excuse. He used steroids. He stupidly corked his bat. He was (supposedly) a less than stellar teammate in the clubhouse. At the end of the day, everything points back to Sammy Sosa being only, and all about himself.

If he could ever truly admit his shortcomings there’s a chance the fans could “forgive him”. But when you evade the issues and act like a clown at EVERY opportunity that’s not going to happen.

My perspective? A lifelong Cub fan who rooted for players that played and represented the game the right way. Favorite players growing up? Dunston and Dawson. I never liked Sosa, the way he portrayed himself (then), and they way he acts now. The dude hasn’t changed a bit and I wish the organization would tell him to pound sand.

  8. Anyone who was a fan of baseball back then was enthralled with Sosa and McGwire going toe to toe and going for the hr record. Everyone wants to witness greatness in their lifetime. That they were taking steroids sucks and cheapens it all but it was entertaining as hell at the time.

  9. I’m not a Cubs fan but him running onto the field with the American flag is something I’ll always remember.
