EUGENE — The court injunction allowing Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia to remain eligible by deeming his junior college play did not apply to his NCAA eligibility clock could impact Oregon men’s basketball forwards Jadrian Tracey and Dezdrick Lindsay.
According to Yahoo, the NCAA does not plan to change its eligibility rules for players other than Pavia. However, the governing body did make broader changes to its rules granting immediate eligibility to players who transfer multiple times following a similar court injunction last year.
“If he’s successful other junior college players are to follow,” Oregon coach Dana Altman said. “Once the precedent is set it could be good for junior college players. That would be good for college basketball. It would help the junior colleges again and a lot more guys would go junior college and develop.
“I think it would be good for the long-term but I got a junior college background, I believe in junior colleges. So I’ve got a little different philosophy than probably a lot of people do.”
Altman played at Fairbury Junior College, now Southeast Community College, and coached at Southeast CC and Moberly CC.
Tracey and Lindsay both played at Florida Southwestern for one and two years, respectively. If Wednesday’s injunction eventually applies to Tracey and Lindsay, they would have two and four seasons of eligibility remaining, respectively, rather than one and two.
“Looking in the near future, it would be great for Bam and Dez if that applies to everybody,” Altman said.
