MLB Rumors: Vlad Guerrero Jr. Trade ‘a Last Resort’ for Blue Jays After Missing Soto

Trading star player a ‘last resort’. Ground breaking news, folks!
If they have to come out and state what would generally be considered the common sense move, I am inclined to believe that they are seriously considering moving him. Of course they’re not gonna come out and say that; why bring his value down and risk the wrath of the fan base?
Or perhaps they are trying to pressure Vlad to take the next offer. Everyone knows Vlad needs Toronto more than the team needs him. He will never ever be the ‘franchise guy’ in any other team and he knows it. At heart, Vlad is a 12 year old who can’t do without being the centre of attention. He needs the comfort of Toronto. Desperately. This possibility of him being traded, even if a ‘last resort’, can put the fear of god in him and persuade him to take a reasonable offer (e.g. not a penny more than $300M).
I have never disliked an athlete more than Vlad. I genuinely hope that the team is actively listening to offers and that he is traded before spring training begins.
nothingburger
Not much else they can do. Team is toast without upgrades. Farm system is terrible. Two biggest stars are hitting free agency.
It’s time for Rogers to take over if he wants to Salvage any part of this team and his pride
Trade him now for prospects, better to get something than to get nothing and he walks.
Trading a last resort, signing him is the second last resort apparently
He should go to the red soxs
Makes me wonder as he gets near the end of this. He’s not front office signing he was Alex Anthopoulos make me wonder if they don’t care and much since he is not one of their signings. I mean they were willing to throw money at Soto this year but the year building up to this should have offered him a big contract to buy a few years of free agency at least, I get two way street but if you have all this money to burn the last 2 years.
Wait, so you could afford to go over $500 million on a Soto contract but won’t pay to keep Vlad? What am I missing here?
He’s a Yankee soon
Red Sox have the prospects to get him, he would get to continue to terrorize the Yankees, and the Monster would add points to his batting average.
When is his contract up and what’s the prediction on what type of $$ he will command?
They tried to get Soto, who everyone knew was above 600M. To come back and offer Jr and extension for only 350M. The 2 clowns at the management office need to be fired. Both Vlad and Bo have a foot out of the door. Atkins and Shapiro gotta go.
Nothing is impossible with Shatkins duo.
Yeah, this team is a joke. Refuse to spend money but willing to drop 55 on Soto. You see how teams like the Yankees can stay contending? Despite losing talents like Soto, they’re out on the market, getting stars or taking risks. Eg Fried, Bellinger, and that brewer closer who I don’t remember the name. They detect the other issues in their lineup and adjust properly and always have an ear out. This might be the third straight year the Jays essentially run it back. From a teams whose peak was blowing a fucking 8-1 lead to Seattle and swept in the wildcard round. And don’t want to hear about not wanting to take the bigger risks. If you want to win, you have to eventually. And with a potential generational home grown talent just about to hit free agency, you might want to so he sees you’re going to give a legitimate effort to being a good team. If I’m a star, and I see my FO basically have a tantrum cause they don’t get the big prize and let all of the other solid options sign elsewhere, why would I want to stay.
WE HAVE THE 2ND RICHEST OWNER, AND A TOP 5 TEAM SALARY, WHY YOU CHOOSE NOW TO ACT LIKE A SMALL MARKET TEAM.
If this is all we’re doing, we might as well just blow the team up and trade Vlad, Bichette, Gausman, Bassit, and whatever else we can to get prospects, while becoming the late 2010s Orioles. We’re already the worst team in the AL East by a considerable about, why not bottom out and get the higher picks.
Hopefully it also spells the end of Schneider/Atkins/Shapiro here too. I thought the Richardi tenure was bad, but at least we didn’t have that much when it comes to expectations. These guys literally had a legitimate contender roster with two very elite home grown stars right in the middle, and many excellent complementary pieces, and did nothing but subpar drafts and letting people leave.
