[Rosenthal] The latest on Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and the Blue Jays’ offseason

  1. >Picture the Toronto Blue Jays keeping first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. long-term. Trading shortstop Bo Bichette. Signing free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman.

    >None of those outcomes is particularly likely. All, however, are in play, according to sources briefed on the Jays’ discussions.

    >The Jays are in talks with Guerrero about a long-term extension that would buy him out of his final year of arbitration and free agency. They are fielding interest in Bichette, who also is entering his walk year. And they are at least on the periphery of the Bregman sweepstakes, though other free agents, for now, appear better fits.

    > Still, the Jays do not appear to be shopping Bichette. Executives from three rival clubs, granted anonymity for their candor, said the Jays are open to moving him, but only for a high price.

Good luck, with Bichette coming off his down year, under club control for only one more season and set to earn $16.5 million in 2025. He also ended the season with a broken finger that required surgery, but is expected to be ready for the start of spring training.

Bichette is going to start the season as Jay, I feel quite confident.

  3. Ken Rosenthal Blue Jays information should always be taken with an asterisk but saying that they should be trying to sign him long-term over the ARB considering he will be making $30-32 M anyways and while Bo value couldn’t be lower there is no harm in listening to offers. Maybe you get a surprising offer which also lets you move Gimenez to SS. Bregman they need to stay away from though.

  4. For Vlad, I don’t care, I’ll only believe it if he puts pen to paper on a new contract.

Bo might be a redemption year, then traded in July type

  5. I hope they get vlad done. Bregman? Sure why not. We have a glaring hole at 3rd base. I would say if we can sign resign vlad, sign santander, bregman plus sign a starter like pivetta its a great offeason. Its a shit ton but the FO backed themselves into a corner. Thats the minimum we need to be a playoff caliber team next year imo.

  6. I’ll be surprised if both remain on the team by the end of the 2025 season. They won’t get much for Bo now. If he’s healthy and bounces back, and the team is not having a good year again, he’ll get traded before the trade deadline. Vlad will test free agency and the Jays won’t spend the money he commands. They are both gone.

  7. I think they need to stay away from Bergman and they should see what the cost would be for Alec Bohm if it’s Bassitt trade him since he going to be a free agent next year and I think he is on a downturn in his career, I would sign Walker Beuhler and Nick Pavetta or Sean Manaea and look at signing Santander as a DH and trade for Luis Robert Jr as your other out fielder or the outfielder the Reds just put on the trade block and have Will Wagner play 2nd base or sign Ha-Seong Kim for 2nd base if Gimanez is moving to shortstop if they trade Bo they might get a great 3rd baseman or 2nd baseman in the trade plus a catcher
