[John Keating] Hey, gang. A bit of personal news here. I’ve decided to retire from TV at the end of this Red Wings season.

  1. Congratulations to John Keating! He’s one of the best in the business. And I will dearly miss him.

  2. Fun little story here. A long time ago I went to the Hockeytown cafe to catch a segment of The Best Damn Sports Show Period. It was a lot of fun, I got to meet Brett Hull and Tom Arnold. But before the segment even happened I ran into John Keating. Growing up I watched a lot of Fox Sports Detroit and was a huge fan of the program. I just wanted to say I was a fan of the program and thanked him for that. He was thrilled by it and said his thanks and was leaving but said wait a minute. So I hung out and then I was approached by someone from FSD. They asked my mailing address and I thought nothing of it. Fast forward a month later and I got a box in the mail full of Fox Sports Detroit goodies. There was a baseball cap, t-shirt, stickers and a bunch of other stuff.

  3. John Keating is hilarious. And a real pro. He will be missed. I love he and Ozzie mixing it up. Always love those segments.

  4. …and pray to the Baby Jesus that I can survive Chris Osgood this season. 😂🤣

If you had any doubt that John Keating may or may not be a good dude, there’s your proof that he is.

  5. As much as we all look to Ken and Mick, Keating is right up there with faces you just don’t want to lose! Absolute legend, hope he spends the time he’s earned drinking all of the ginger ales.

  6. Really fortunate to have had him all this time, thinks on his feet as well as anyone in a host role. Enjoy the sunsets, JK.

  7. Congratulations to him.

I wonder who they replace him with, does Trevor still hope for Ken to retire or just steps into John’s role? I think that’s the option as they have had him do it a few times now and he’s done great!

  8. Good for Keats! So well deserved. Doing the MLB and NHL seasons back to back has to be exhausting. No idea how Daniella & co do that too. It’s also the most John Keating thing ever to end this statement with a jab at Osgood, that combo is the best.

I feel like Dekeyser is going to step in. He’s been doing more around the broadcast / media stuff and he’s incredibly good at it

  9. Oh man. Good for him but this also sucks, and makes me dread the day we see this announcement from Ken and Mick

  10. I love John.. but I’m extremely sad to see him go because I feel as if the Red Wings were only 2-3 years away from being an absolutely dynamite team to cover. Keats is a very fun personality while also being extremely professional; the epitome of Red Wings media. I don’t use this term lightly, but a lot of those who have watched Red Wings games over the years will understand, that he is irreplaceable. I wish the best to Mr Keating and his family. He will be sorely missed.

  11. Love him. Quite a reach for some of his setup jokes, but that’s part of his charm. Ozzie ain’t going to build the same chemistry with anyone else super quick, but like I said: we miss folks for what’s unique about them. Nice watching you, John.

  12. Congratulations John! You’ve been a great announcer and we were lucky to have you. Enjoy retirement!!

  13. Well earned and deserved. Definitely will miss him but I hope he can watch the games from the beach!

  14. Bummer! He added another unique element to out great broadcast group. Best of luck in retirement Keats!
