[Charlie O’Connor] Also asked Tortorella today if there was any thought to giving Ivan Fedotov another shot in the near future due to the recent struggles of Ersson and Kolosov. Nope, even though he agreed the goalies have struggled. “No, this what we’re staying with. It’s a decision we made.”

  1. This is such a weird story.

The Flyers are choosing to keep 3 goalies on the roster, but have also made a deliberate decision to not even occasionally use one of them? Even when the other 2 goalies are struggling? And the goalie in question is a guy who the Flyers worked hard to extract from Russia just months ago? And then gave a generous payday after 3 games?

I understand they don’t want to send Kolosov down to the AHL against his demands. But why are they admitting publicly that they are not even planning to give Fedotov another shot in the near future?

  2. There is absolutely no way this is Tort’s decision.

Upper management caved to Kolosov, which is ironic considering in the locker room there’s a phrase basically saying the crest on the front is more important than the name on the back.

While I know Fedotov has had his struggles, he seemed to be turning a corner. And it just makes way more sense having the youngest goalie actually develop by starting day in and day out in the AHL.

  3. This is goddamn stupid, how’s he supposed to show what he can do then?  Even when we last saw him when he got yanked after the first period, I didn’t see anything that would have warranted it.

Kolosov needs to go down and get all of the games and work towards claiming a spot for next year.

Feddy needs games.  Unless they are going to put Feddy on waivers at this point so he can either go down and get more games or see if someone would take him, this continues to remain a horrendously idiotic situation that helps no one.

  4. Why keep three goalies on the roster, then?

I don’t understand why we’re keeping Fedotov in this weird limbo instead of developing him. Either let him get AHL ice time or give him starts in the rotation. Our current strategy doesn’t seem to benefit anyone, but maybe I’m missing something here.

  5. Well then waive him already and keep Andrae around. I can’t see how keeping Fedotov on the roster but admitting he won’t play helps him or the team.

  6. This is the kind of disassociation from reality I feel before a grand mal… Torts, are you okay?

  7. Yet another example where it seems this org really doesn’t know what direction they should be taking.

  8. This makes absolutely no sense. If they want Feddy around as a backup in case errson gets injured again, how is he supposed to be any good if he’s not getting play time? If he’s got no place on the team, then send him down to the AHL. Either he gets picked up by someone else (and if they don’t want him, who cares?) or he’s getting to play and can reasonably be expected to perform if he does get called back up in case of injury.

Also, not for nothing, but getting bossed around by a player throwing a tantrum because he wasn’t going to get his way is not a good look for management

  9. That doesnt make sense. Fedotov was starting to play better, its a small sample and both Ersson/Kolosov have been terrible.

How can you be confident that Kolosov is better? He has an .878 through 11 games himself.

Why even keep 3 goalies then?
