  1. Ugh I hate this. My favorite player growing up in the 80’s. This is heartbreaking. He loved Oakland and the A’s. Straight up town legend RIP

  2. 2024 continues to be an absolute kick in the balls for A’s fans. RIP Rickey, the best to ever do it

  3. I’ve always been fascinated by players whose records will never ever be touched.

Furthermore, Rickey Henderson was a childhood favorite, and I have always been a fan of this not only his talent, but his individuality.

There was only one Rickey Henderson. Safe home.

  4. mr. oakland.. he showed the world that a kid can grow up and play on his local pro team at the highest level.. at a hall of fame level.. at a record breaking level..

he taught us that our dreams can come true.. my favorite player of all time.. my hero

  5. This really feels like the official death of the Oakland Athletics. Greatest of all time.

  6. He was (and still is) my all time favorite player to watch in my memory. For a brief time I worked in the Grayton Casino when it opened and Rickey came in and I lurked over to where he was but it was obvious he was busy so I left him alone. But man he gave me so many great memories when I was a kid.

  7. Rest in peace Rickey.

I had 2 athletes posters on my wall as a kid, Rickey and McGwire. I saw him everyday growing up and I will never forget walking the concourse at the Coliseum and randomly seeing him smiling and greeting everyone.

  8. Rest in power, Rickey!

It was still in bad taste for Last Dive Bar to be reporting on it before his own family had a chance to grieve and be ready to let the world know of his passing.

  9. The final nail in the coffin for the Oakland A’s. It’s like the script was already written. RIP to the Goat and FJF forever.

  10. Damn. I was hoping it was a hoax. This is terrible news that is hitting me hard. Growing up in Hayward and Sal Leandro in the 80’s and early 90’s, Rickey is the sole reason I fell in love with the game of Baseball and the A’s.

Yes, there were a lot of great players on those A’s teams back then whom I also loved, but Rickey was just something else and special to watch play the game.

    RIP Man of Steal

  11. Damn. I was hoping it wasn’t true. I watched the YouTube video on his performance in the 1989 ALCS yesterday. Loved Rickey.

  12. I am so heartbroken over this loss but I am looking at the bright side, at least Rickey does not have to watch the team move! Rest in peace Rickey, thank you for everything that you did and we could not be grateful enough!

  13. Damn it…I didn’t want it to be true. RIP to the greatest Oakland Athletic of all time.

    2024 can fuck off.

  14. Honestly and tragically poetic. Death of a franchise. Death of that franchise’s most iconic legend.

  15. Rickey set the kind of record you can’t even break in the video games. He’ll outlive every single one of us. rest in piece to the goat

  16. Born in 79 so i was 10 when we swept the giants in 89. I can’t count how many times i would try and emulate Rickey’s batting stance and swing in the backyard. Posters of Rickey along with other A’s all over my bedroom walls. Best leadoff hitter in MLB history without a doubt. Man what a joy it was to watch Rickey play baseball. On the mount Rushmore of Bay Area athletes.

    RIP RIckey

  18. I’m going to leave some flowers at the Oakland Tech baseball field near the fencing along the street. 426 45th Street (Temescal District) off of Telegraph. Feel free to join me. Rickey obviously grew up in Oakland played at Oakland Tech.

The A’s are gone and there’s no stadium or statue of him anywhere.

  19. Literally this is the death of Oakland baseball. I’m so sad bruh. Prayers & condolences to Rickey’s family, Oakland & A’s fans everywhere

  20. Being an Oakland native he was my hero running the bases at the coliseum turning a walk into a run. The most disruptive baseball player in MLB history. The greatest lead off hitter 🐐
    RIP Rickey 🙏🏽🙏🏽
