  1. What a shocking death! I wonder if Oakland losing the A’s hurt him so deeply that it negatively impacted his overall health. Very, very sad news. RIP to an absolute contender for the GOAT!

  2. The greatest leadoff hitter and base stealer of all-time πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ. RIP Rickey Henderson πŸ˜’πŸ•ŠοΈπŸŒΉπŸ™πŸΌ.

  3. I was living in Chico, going to school and delivering pitas, back in 2005. I went out for a delivery and when I came back a co-worker came up to me and said "Rickey Henderson was just in here!". I thought "What? How?". Well, Rickey was still playing baseball and the San Diego Surf Dogs were in town to play the Chico Outlaws in the Golden League. The joy in my co-worker, the only other person there besides me who would have known that was the Man of Steal, was overflowing. I could sense the energy he just gave the building and those inside. I wish I could have seen that smile in person. Love and condolences to his family, friends, fans. Today is truly a sad day.

  4. Thank you for these. I need to hear of him and can’t find much today. My heart aches but thank you Rickey for all the amazing memories!!! Forever an Oakland A! πŸ’›βšΎοΈπŸ’š

  5. Rest in peace to Ricky Henderson. He passes away just a few days before his birthday. I didn’t realize he was born on the same day that James Brown passed away.

  6. When Rickey Henderson broke in with the A's back in June of 1979, he was only 20 years old. He had an immediate impact and was always an outstanding player in all facets of the game. Always thought the two most significant individuals in keeping the A's in Oakland when it looked like relocation was a certainty were Rickey Henderson and Billy Martin. Rickey was the on field catalyst of those Billyball teams and thereafter.

  7. My favorite athlete of all time. I can't stop crying. I patterned my batting stance after his. I wish I still had my "Henderson Steals a Record" t-shirt. Rest peacefully, Rickey!

  8. They also changed the stolen base rules in 1898. Before then, taking an extra base over a batter behind you was counted as a stolen base.

If we were still counting like that, I really want to know how many Rickey would have gotten in '82, with Canseco and McGwire behind him. 250? 300?

I don't know where to find those stats though. I hope someone figures it out.
