  1. * Jones (right foot) and Mrazek (left groin) returned from injuries. They both looked rusty.
    * Huberdeau scored a SHG and was stopped on a penalty shot.
    * A Korchinski turnover led to a Kadri goal.
    * Bedard scored on a 2-on-1 from Hall.
    * The Hawks streak of 33 straight penalties killed came to an end.
    * Bertuzzi stuck with a Bedard feed and scored while falling down.
    * Bertuzzi scored from beside the net on a 5-on-3.
    * Bedard earned 3 points.
    * Mikheyev scored his 5th goal in the last 4 games on a late rebound.
    * Teuvo earned his 10th point in the last 4 games.
    * The Hawks made it interesting, but weren’t able to overcome a 5-1 deficit.

  2. fuck the flames and their dirty ass team. Jones needs to never see another game again. We played like shit but we fought hard and didn’t give up. On the plus side, bedsy 3 points!!

  3. Rough game from the defense and Mrazek. They put up a fight at the end which was nice to see though. Also, the refs were pretty bad tonight. They’re not the reason the hawks lost but still. A lot of soft calls.

  4. One of the biggest differences we’ve seen with Sorensen is the effort. Before we’d be turtling and giving up if we were down 5-1 into the third. While there were a couple of games we’d lose steam into the third, many have been the opposite, such as the comeback win prior.

Bad reffing and bad penalties will happen in a game and there’ll be times we need to win an uphill battle and that’s something they’ve got to try to figure out with the defense (and yes, in part because of Jones).

It seems like this effort is for the most part here to stay, and that’s a relief after we saw how the season started. No moral victories, but there’s things shining here that I hope will help us get more wins down the road. This started as an immensely frustrating game and while it was still a loss, I liked the push at the end.

As an aside: Keep Bedsy and Bertuzzi together on a line and keep Vlasic on PP1

  5. If he doesn’t get suspended I want Pospisil on a stretcher next game. Two blatant headshots, absolutely uncalled for. Very lucky Frank and Connor weren’t hurt.

  6. Davidson needs to call up Drury in NY and acquire Rempe purely for the Jan 13th game against Calgary. Cut his ass straight after the game for all I care lol

  7. I don’t know why it took so long to put Bedard with Hall and Bertuzzi.

Say what you want about them but outside the Dickinson line, that you can’t break up at this point, they’re the only players that can win puck battles for Bedard.

  8. Fuck 2nd periods, 3rd periods are where it’s at. Refreshing to watch under Sorenson how the team fights even when down by 4, and how close they were to pulling off another comeback. Some shoddy play in the defensive zone through the first 2 doomed them, but it’s so much easier to stomach a loss while scoring 4 goals compared to a loss with only 1 goal.

Oh, and Connor Bedard is good at hockey.

  9. Jones being back really shows how much he brings the team down. Turnover to allow a shorthanded goal. His skating always feels slow and lazy. He likes to play out of position forcing other offensive players to have to cover for him. It feels like he takes forever to think about passing and when he does they are usually shit passes or dumb(he loves those drop passes in our defensive zone when there is a better opportunity up the ice) . Not giving 100% effort on that empty netter until it was in the net. Skate your ass off and dive stick first!

I don’t care how much he gets paid. Let’s just healthy scratch him and let the players that are working their asses off and proving themselves get some more time.

  10. Probably could have held Jones out for this 1. Not only rusty coming back with limited practice between activation and game, but also a regime and playstyle shift.

  11. Multi-point game for Bedard and the team showed some serious fight by clawing their way back from 5-1 to 5-4.

Plus the Preds won today, putting the Hawks 1 step closer to having the best possible odds for Hagens, Martone, or Misa.

Not a bad day at all.

  12. Refs sucked, but we could have played a better defensive game. My biggest takeaway was Calgary keeping their sticks on the ice and breaking up our passes. We had no way of getting players moving and using momentum towards the net. If the Hawks want to take the next step, that has to happen. Also, Bedard is almost triple teamed every entrance why don’t we have an outlet pass before he enters to make a play!?!?
