Way too young. When Willie Mays passed, I considered Rickey to be the greatest living player.
I still want to believe the John Olerud story is real.

Damn. One of my favorite players all time, and this was when he was on the Mets. Gone too soon. Steal away for eternity, Rickey.
I interviewed Benny Agbayani a few years back. He spoke about growing up in Hawaii, the A’s were the local team they’d get on TV and Rickey was his favorite player. He said he felt kind of starstruck sharing the clubhouse with Rickey, and that Rickey would help offer advice and guidance to the younger players in the clubhouse. When he was leaving the Mets, he gave Agbayani one of his jerseys. And when Agbayani asked if he could have a bat Rickey gave him one as well.
