[Padres] We mourn the passing of former Padres legend and Hall of Famer, Rickey Henderson. Rickey played for the Padres from 1996-1997 and again in 2001. He broke Ty Cobb’s All-Time Runs Scored record with a home run late in the ‘01 season and recorded his 3,000th career hit on the final day.

Rickey played for the Padres from 1996-1997 and again in 2001. He broke Ty Cobb’s All-Time Runs Scored record with a home run late in the ‘01 season and recorded his 3,000th career hit on the final day. He also set a Major League record with 81 career leadoff home runs and finished with an MLB-record 1,406 stolen bases.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time.
He was uniquely talented and often unfairly maligned. He was indeed one of a kind.
Rickey’s mom and my aunt got my cousin and him to dance together at an Oakland Technical High School dance.
His line about tenure remains a classic. Probably avail on Google.
Damn, one of my favorites. Got to be there for his 3000th hit too (also Tony’s last game). I was only in junior high at the time but I remember it well and DEFINITELY didn’t imagine they’d both be gone less than 25 years from then. I would say rest in power, but maybe it would be more appropriate to say rest in hits and stolen bases, Rickey!

Got to see him swipe a bag in the 2001 season. Dude made it look so easy.
One of one. Rest in power Rickey
