Hey Hey! Ho Ho! Coach Lalonde has got to go! Hey Hey! Ho Ho! Coach Lalonde has got to go!

I woke up early after traveling (as you do) and started scrolling the team stats (as you do.) The problems with this roster go deeper than generating goals, but as a smart person once said, “Hockey is a simple game – the team with the most goals at the end of 60 minutes wins.” With that in mind, I started looking at how effectively each player on the team is generating goals.
Some players are primarily on the roster to generate goals, others have different responsibilities. Money Puck has a stat called something wild like Goals Above xGoals Adjusted for Shooting Talent – basically how many goals is this player generating relative to the number they would be expected to generate based on their shooting ability.
Dividing the players into tiers in descending order:
Saving Our Ass Tier (+3 or More ):
Ray
Really Freaking Good Tier (+2 to +3):
Nobody
Better Than You Think Tier (+1 to +2):
Copp
Slightly Outperforming Tier (0 to 0.9+):
Veleno
Petry
Seider
Holl
Slightly Underperforming Tier (-0.9 to 0):
Larkin
Rasmussen
Edvinsson*
Johansson*
Fischer
Motte
Letting Us Down Tier (-1 to -2):
Chiarot
Gustafsson
DeBrincat
Yikes Tier (-2 to -3):
Berggren*
Kasper*
Tarasenko
Kane
What Do You Do Here Tier (-3 and beyond):
Compher
So, of the regular roster players, we have 14 (70%) who are failing to meet scoring expectations in some fashion, and six (30%) meeting or exceeding expectations. Of the six exceeding expectations, four are doing about what you would expect or a bit better, one is notably outplaying his ability, and one is dragging the rest of the roster to the occasional win against their will.
Maybe most notable – several players primarily on the roster to generate goals are not doing the job: Larkin, DeBrincat, Berggren*, Kasper*, Tarasenko, Kane and Compher. *Berggy and Kasper are playing in their first real NHL season after playing primarily in the AHL, but the rest of the list…..
Down go the Sabres and up go the Sens…
Blah Blah Blah Blashil
La La La Lalonde
New coach please
Fire the coach fire the team up.
The roster and coaching staff both need to look different after the freeze is lifted
(Season is lost, give Newsy the professional courtesy of not firing him on Christmas)
Work had me so tired I passed out after the first period. A bit of a blessing I see.
This team isn’t even good enough to be disappointing…
I’m not angry, I’m just disappointed.
Another game where AlJo was completely invisible. How does the kid expect to earn TOI while playing like that! Smh.
31 on the power rankings baby.
I’m genuinely getting tired gang.
All I want for Christmas is a new coach
Why is everyone doom and gloom right now? We are exactly the same as the 2019 Blues. We already got the Stanley Cup guaranteed so enjoy the Holidays and go to your nearest jeweler to get your Championship ring sized.
Senators have won 6 straight.
Everyone wants to talk about how bad this team of skaters is, and it certainly has many deficiencies, but we haven’t had good goaltending since early November.
Since they’ve come back from injury Talbot and Lyon have *really* not been feeling it. Lyon had a 0.792 save percentage last night. Talbot the night before let in at least 2 really bad goals on wristers from afar. And while they were out for weeks we trotted out Husso, who, bless him, is not an everyday nhl goalie anymore.
Expect more pain on winnable games if that doesn’t improve. This team isn’t good enough – and doesn’t have the firepower – to overcome less than average goaltending. Especially when we play this offensively lifeless system.
I really hope there’s some kind of shakeup after the roster freeze, because on paper I don’t think the team should be *this* bad. They’re underperforming even their low expectations. If we’re gonna cut bait and lean into being bad by keeping Lalonde for the year, fine. But there better be some consequences and moves in the off-season.
Well, season’s done. This was the “getting bent over twice by arizona” of this season, I’m just glad they got it out of the way early.
Kinda wanna buy a Teddy Roosevelt costume to wear to USA-Canada in Montreal for the 4 Nations and be obnoxious to the ~~frenchies~~ people of montreal
At least there is the world juniors and Four Nations …
